“Thanks for staying,” I say.

She walks toward the door. “Of course. Let me know if you need to go out again. I’m happy to help.”

She lingers for a moment by the door like she’s wanting to say something and then she just gives me a little wave and says goodnight.

Maggie is already in bed, but her pregnancy pillow is on the floor. She stirs when I walk in the room.

“I didn’t mean to wake you,” I whisper.

“I wasn’t sleeping.” She turns on her lamp and sits up a little.

“Why aren’t you using your pillow? Do you want me to give it to you?”

She looks down at it and then back at me. “No.”

I pull on my pajama pants and head to the backroom to brush my teeth. After I come back out, I say, “I thought you liked your pillow. Did something change?”

“No.” She looks down at the blanket and picks some lint off the bed. “I do like it. I just want...”

She looks up at me, her face is a little flushed. “I’d like to cuddle.”

I’m trying to hold my face still. “Oh.”

“I could just use some human interaction,” she mumbles.

I climb into bed, and she looks over at me.

“Come here.” I motion for her to move closer. “How do you want to do this?”

She laughs. “I think spooning would work best at this point. Don’t you?”

“Yes.”

“Help me roll over. I’m like a beached whale. I can’t do it on my own.”

I snort. “You are not a beached whale.”

I help her onto her side and then I take her by the hips and pull her back until she’s nestled against my body.

Her whole body relaxes, and she lets out a little moan. I’m trying not to get hard, but there’s no use. As soon as her ass is pressed against me, I’m straining in my pants.

“Sorry,” I say.

She turns and puts her hand on my cheek. “I’m glad you still find me attractive.”

“Are you kidding me?” I say. All I think about is how attractive she is.

I take her hand from my cheek and place it on her stomach, my hand resting on hers.

“I could help you out with that if you wanted,” she says.

I choke. “What?”

“I could give you a hand if you wanted...”

Before she can finish that thought, I say, “I don’t.”

She lets out a long exhale. “I just know it’s been a long time for you. Doesn’t seem fair.”
