“Maybe I don’t need to be protected from men,” I say.

“You do,” Bodie says quickly.

Eli points at him and nods in agreement.

I take my time glaring at both of them.

Eli’s phone buzzes, and he glances down. “Shit, I have to talk to Trevor before he leaves. You’ll keep an eye on her for me?”

Bodie nods. He keeps his gaze glued on me as Eli walks away. His eyes are flickering, his chest rising and falling noticeably with each breath.

“Why the hell didn’t you tell me who you were?” he hisses once he’s sure Eli’s gone.

“That wouldn’t have been very fun,” I answer.

His eyes narrow even more.

“Besides we’ve met like six times,” I continue.

“Last time I saw you, you looked twelve,” he growls.I wasn’t twelve, but I was a bit of a late bloomer.

I shrug. “I can’t help it if you aren’t very good with faces.”

I move to pick up my drink, but he grabs my wrist. “That better not be alcoholic.”

“It’s not. Do you want to sip?” I say sweetly.

He drops my wrist and then runs his hands through his hair. He points in the direction of the party. “If Eli finds out about this, he will fucking murder me.”

I step closer so I can straighten his collar and smooth the front of his shirt. “So don’t tell him.”

I give his chest a little pat and walk back to the party without a single glance back his direction.

Chapter One

Juno

I spot Bodie as soon as he boards the plane. When he realizes his seat is beside mine, his jaw tightens slightly - just enough for me to notice. He stows his bag and then sits down.

“Juno,” he says without looking at me.

“Bodie,” I say, smiling at him. I make him so uncomfortable.

He’s looking around, nervously.

“If you want to switch seats, maybe Keene will...”

He cuts me off, “I don’t need to switch seats.”

We’ve seen each other a handful of times since the night of the kiss. Eli likes to invite him to family events. Bodie is always stiff as a board around me and manages to stay at least ten feet away from me at all times. This is the closest we’ve been since kissing.

He leans his head against the headrest and closes his eyes.

I sit back and face forward, turning my attention to the book I’ve just started. I read the same sentence five times before giving up. I’m not going to be able to focus with him beside me.

“What are you looking forward to eating the most?” I say, setting my book down.

He doesn’t open his eyes. “Pasta.”
