“What happened to Archer?”

Derek tells me what he knows. Archer was in a coma, and once he woke up, the people who claimed to be his family brought him in to help with his recovery. Of course, it makes sense that he never came home to me, but will his memories ever return?

What about us?

Hesitantly I have to ask, “So, he can’t remember anything?”

Derek nods. “Only one person—vaguely.”

“Who?” I hold my breath, my heart racing as I wait for the answer.

“Really, you need to ask?” Derek smiles knowingly.

My mouth opens, but no sound comes out. The heat rises to my cheeks as the realization dawns on me. “Dream girl.”

How can I forget the texts and the sex and… I flush thinking about the sex scenes he wrote.

“Why are your cheeks darkening?” He leans closer, his eyes narrowing. “Piper?”

“Remember the sex scenes you read?”

“The kinky threesomes?” He nods, his eyebrows raised in question.

“Archer wrote them,” I say quietly.

“They were hot.” He smirks, then corrects me. “Finnegan. Make sure to call him Finn or Finnegan.”

I take a deep breath and nod solemnly. “I’ll work on that.”

He laughs incredulously, “So, he writes sexy books?”

“No, it was just those scenes,” I say as my heart sinks when I remember the last conversation I had with Finnegan Gil.

His suggestion of a threesome between us three still echoes in the air. He offered sex. Only sex and nothing more. After that, he disappeared until he announced the existence of his family.

I gather courage and muster up the strength to ask about his life. I want to know about his wife, and whether he had more than one child.

“What is it?” Derek asks, his tone cautious.

The crunch of the gravel distracts me. When I glance up, I spot Archer running toward us. I gape, my lips stretching in a bright smile, hoping that maybe he finally remembers who I am—his ladybug.

“Archer,” I mumble.

“It’s Finnegan,” Derek chastises me.

I smile, knowing he’ll eat his words, but my heart sinks into my stomach when Finnegan stops in front of us and says, “We have to go.”

“You just got here,” I mumble, disappointed.

Archer barely looks at me before turning to Derek and explaining his plan. “We have to break into the house in New Mexico.”

Derek looks at him. “Will that stop the Zs from following her family?”

Archer shakes his head. “No, but I don’t give a fuck about them. This is our chance to get rid of them.”

I rise from my seat, shoving him as hard as I can. “You fucking said you would protect them. At least keep that fucking promise alive.”

Archer’s arms encircle me as I stumble back, his chest presses against my body and I can feel the warmth of his skin radiating through my clothes. His gaze, so intense and full of emotion, holds me in place, penetrating every corner of my soul. I feel like I’m in some sort of dream-like state trying to find my guy.
