Why didn’t I think about storing all that data while I lived with him is beyond me?
If I had done it then, I would’ve killed him years ago.
After landing, we head toward my office. I send a text to everyone letting them know we should be meeting in the conference room in an hour.
When Derek shuts the door, the first question that leaves my lips is, “You’re engaged?”
His laughter fills the room before he clarifies, “No. Why would you ask that question?”
“Piper was wearing a solitaire ring.”
“It’s not what you think,” he says.
And surprisingly, I sigh with relief, but then I cross my arms because if they’re not engaged then what is she to him?
“Then, don’t jeopardize our company and risk our men for her. Put your feelings aside, we need to focus on the task at hand and take the Zs down once and for all.”
He takes a deep breath and exhales. “Let’s put a pin in this conversation until we’re done with the mission. Then, we can talk about Piper, your past, and whatever else you want to know.”
My frustration grows as I rub my fingers against my forehead. His answer doesn’t soothe me, and that woman… she’s becoming the bane of my existence.

Geek4life: Probably, but that won’t cut the root.
LoneWolf99: Obviously, but let’s hear it.
Geek4life: They go to a gala and we let the Zs know around midnight so we can attack them.
LoneWolf99: You’re putting civilians at risk.
Geek4life: You sound like Seth.
LoneWolf99: Maybe he’s not as stupid as I thought.
Geek4life: The plan can work. Are you going to back us up?
LoneWolf99: Sure, which gala?
Geek4life: I’ll send you all the information, do you need an invite?
LoneWolf99: Nah, I have connections.
LoneWolf99: But we still have to take care of the head.
Geek4life: Are you going to hunt them?
LoneWolf99: Most likely. Will you help?
Geek4life: Of course.
LoneWolf99: How about The Organization?
Geek4life: Doubtful. You would have to convince the boss, and he has archaic ideas.
LoneWolf99: No wonder he almost lost a man.
