“I’m in love with your sister,” I said. “Okay? That’s the story. That’s all that matters.”

Andy put his hands on his head again. “You mean that? This whole love thing?”

“All the way,” I said. “No doubt in my mind or my heart.”

Andy stepped toward the fridge and I stepped out of the way.

He opened the fridge and grabbed a beer.

He twisted off the cap, dropped it to the floor, and walked away.

April slid off my back.

I grabbed her hand.

“You just told my brother you love me,” she said.

“I did. I need to go talk to him.”

“Then don’t kiss me this time. You know it’s a distraction.”

I got myself a beer and went back out to the balcony.

Andy leaned against the railing.

“You know, I’m thinking of about ten ways to kill you right now,” Andy said. “Throwing you off this balcony. Drowning you in the ocean.”

“That’s only two.”

Andy turned his head. “Is this fun for you?”

“What do you want me to say, man? I’m telling you the truth.”

“My sister. You’re in love with my sister.”

“That’s right. This thing has been building for a long time.”

“And she’s the one who magically makes you want to be a committed man?”

“Is that what this is?” I asked. “You’re worried I’m going to hurt her. That I’m going to find someone else or cheat on her. Break her heart.”

“Seb, I know you. I know how you are with women.”

“Did you ever think for a second maybe why I never had a serious thing was because I never met the right person?”

“Oh, fuck, you’re going to throw that at me? This whole love story shit that my sister is the one who changed you?”

“She didn’t change me,” I said. “I just know what I want when I’m near her.”

“Let me guess. It’s her. That’s what you want.”

I nodded. “Sorry, man. But, hey, look at the bright side of it. We might be related someday.”

I reached for Andy and he smacked my hand out of the way. “Are you saying you want to marry my sister? What the hell?”

I laughed. “I saidmight. I’m not going too fast here. Okay?”

“Sure fucking seems like it. You know, I called you as my best friend to help out. I needed you to look after my sister.”
