I lowered my head.
Seb walked toward me and touched my shoulders.

“It’s done,” he said. “That guy is gone. He’s done for good for now. If anything changes, I’ll hire a lawyer and make sure his life is ruined. Nobody does that to you, April.”
I looked up at Seb.
Tears fell from my eyes.
“I didn’t know how to talk about it,” I whispered. “I didn’t go to you because of that. But I did feel safe with you. And I meant everything I said. I’m in love with you,Sebby. I’ve always been in love with you and I always will be.”
“I know that,” he said. He swallowed hard. “I have to go. I can’t be here.”
“I didn’t use you,” I said. “I swear. I didn’t use you!”
He touched my face and wiped away a tear.
He didn’t say anything else.
He made sure I texted Steph, Poppy, and Katie.
He made sure to wait until they were close by.
Then he left.
With one kiss to my forehead.
He walked to the door and looked back at me. “I’ll always protect you,Auggie. You just have to tell me when shit is rough. Okay?”

Seb swallowed hard and left my apartment.
The door clicked shut and I sat down on the coffee table.
I buried my face in my hands.
I expected to cry so hard that I would scream and throw a tantrum like a kid in the cookie aisle of the grocery store being told no.
Instead, I was silent.
Numb.
Thinking about everything.
Was it so much to ask Seb to protect me, love me and look the other way when it came to my flaws?
