“Don’t hate me for it,” he said. “I know what I’m good at.”

“Yeah. Calling me and pissing me off.”

“Then I’ll hang up.”

“Not yet!” I cried out. “I mean… nothing.”

Seb chuckled. “I’m messing with you.”

I walked to my apartment door.

Panic tried to kick up again.

“Seb. Thanks for calling.”

“I told you I would,” he said. “I keep to my word.”

I opened my apartment door and turned on the first light.

Then I started to run through the apartment to turn on all the others.

“So what comes after selling the spaghetti sauce?” Seb asked. “Going to sell some parmesan cheese too? Or maybe some wine?”

“Not sure what’s next, Seb. That’s the fun of my job. It’s always an adventure.”

“Yeah. But when is your off-season? Oh, right, you don’t get one.”

“You get an off-season because you suck and never make the playoffs.”

“Ouch, babe,” he said.

Babe. He called me babe…

I sat down on the edge of my bed. “I think I’m going to take a shower.”

“Taking me in there with you?”

“Um… like… you mean… videos?”

“I didn’t say that,” Seb said. “You’re thinking dirty again.”

“Me? I’m not dirty. At all. You’re the one that said the shower thing.”

“Have a good one, April. If you need anything…”

“I know. Thanks,Sebby.”

The call ended.

Tears filled my eyes.

I lived for his phone calls.

But it wasn’t as good as him being near me, with me, and touching me.
