A bottle of beer next to me on the end table.

I finally felt comfortable andin the zone.

That was the exact second Seb plopped down on the couch next to me.

As much as I wanted to get angry, it was his couch.

Even still…

I ripped the earbuds out of my ears and looked at him. “Do you mind?”

“Nope. What are you doing?”

“I’m working.”

“This is work for you?”

“How would you feel if I showed up to your job… to the ice rink and sat down in the middle of a practice?”

“First off, your ass would get really cold,” he said. “Second, you’d get hit with a puck. Mess up your pretty face.”

Seb reached across the couch andboopedmy nose.

Pretty? You think I’m pretty? Really?

“That was a bad example,” I said. “But, yes, this is work for me. Okay?”

Seb leaned forward and grabbed a piece of paper.

“So what is this stuff? Legal stuff? Are you some kind of lawyer? Do you put the bad guys away? Or do you help the good guys avoid jail time? Or are you corporate law? That seems like the most boring job in the world.” Seb glanced at the paper. “What is this?Digestion should be a celebration?”

“Give me that,” I snapped. “You don’t know what I do for a living?”

“Of course I don’t. You’re not famous like me. I can’t just look you up.”

“How do you know?”

“If you were famous, you’d be rich. If you were rich, you wouldn’t be sleeping on my couch.”

“I work in marketing and public relations,” I said. “Okay? It’s my job to convince you to try a product or a service. That’s what I get paid to do.”

“So…digestion celebration…?”

Seb smirked.

“Don’t be a dick to me, Seb,” I said. “This is my job. I actually enjoy my job. I’m good at it. That’s why I’m here.”

“To talk about digestion? Is that why you were in the bathroom for so long yesterday?”

I elbowed him.

He laughed.

“I was not doing that!” I cried out.

“Then what were you doing in there, April?”

“Why is that your business?”
