She smiled as a fresh tear fell from her right eye.

“Honestly, it’s fine,” she said.

“We can do this all night,” I said. “I’ll stand right here and ask you what’s wrong. Just save us the time and tell me what’s going on. It’s my job to look after you.”

Is it my job to do that?

No.

This isn’t my job…

“Seb, I promise,” she said. “It was just a bad first day. That’s all. Just a lot. I didn’t know what time you were getting home. I was just taking a minute to myself.”

“Promise me?”

“I promise.”

I scratched at the scruff on my face.

“You know what?” I asked. “I had a crappy day too,Auggie. Let’s go get a drink.”

“Just you and me?” April asked, sounding way more surprised than I ever thought she could sound.

I nodded. “Just you and me.”

Then I added the cherry on the cake.

“My treat, April…”

Chapter Eight

APRIL

The bartender hadred hair and a big chest.

She put two drinks down on the bar and gave a slight smile to Seb.

I didn’t like the fact that jealousy hit me a little, but it wasn’t for the obvious reason.

It was more or less the idea that Seb was at a bar with a woman and this bartender gave him a look like she wanted him.

Then again, who wouldn’t want Seb?

Just look at him…

Jealousy turned into foolishness when the bartender admitted to being a fan of theSOLA Empire.

“I’m not going to bother you about it,” the bartender said. “Just wanted to say I’m a huge fan. It’s awesome you’re at my bar.”

“Thanks for that,” Sebastian said.

“If you need menus or anything, give me a shout. My name is Bailey.”

She turned and walked away.

I looked at Sebastian.

“Bailey,” I said, rolling my eyes.
