I shutthe water off and stepped out of the shower.

I left the door wide open.

I stared down April.

She shook her head, covering her mouth, stuck between smiling and laughing.

“This is a big joke to you?” I tried to ask.

The words didn’t come out right.

My swollen tongue in the way.

That only added to April’s enjoyment of seeing me like this.

She turned away from me, looking down.

I saw her shoulders gently bouncing.

Silently laughing at me.

“Good to know this is how you act,” I said. “Imagine if I really got hurt. If I cut my finger or broke a bone. How hard would you laugh then?”

April turned her head. “Would you be cutting your finger while chopping up… some ginger?”

She snorted, then looked forward and down again.

That’s when I made a decision to get back at her.

Right now.

I grabbed her right arm and spun her around.

“Seb…”

I didn’t want to hear what she had to say.

Instead, I wrapped my arms around her and hugged her tight.

She let out a crying gasp.

“If I’m wet, you are too,” I said.

And believe me, I knew exactly how that sounded.

April squirmed for a second as my soaked shirt soaked her.

Then she gave up.

“Thanks for this,” she said.

“You started it. You were being a pain in the ass. You tried to kill me with ginger.”

April squirmed again and pushed at me.

I pretended to lose my balance and I sank down to the bathroom floor.
