Poppy showed Katie her phone.
“Oh. He’s yummy.”
“I want to see,” Steph said, cutting between the two. “Damn. That’s nice. Isn’t technology great? We’re sitting here, hunting for men.”
“Hunting?” I asked.
Steph showed her teeth and growled.
“I don’t know how men deal with her,” Poppy said.
“Maybe they don’t,” Katie said. “Maybe she’s actually a serial killer. Tracks men down, sleeps with them, then kills them.”
“Oh, I like that,” Steph said. “You know, I used to want to be a writer. That’s all I did when I was younger.”
“You’ve told us this story a million times,” I said.
“Well, here’s to one million… and one,” Steph said.
“Just write the book then,” Poppy said. “Close your legs and open your laptop.”
Katie clapped her hands together and stood up. “And there’s the comment of the night already!”
“Good,” I said. “Get this thing moving so it can end.”
Steph gasped. “You don’t want to be out with us?”
“No,” I said. “I want to be home in a hot bath. And I want to mindlessly scroll on social media. Then watch some stupid reality show. And fall asleep.”
“That sounds good,” Katie groaned.
“Only if I can do it with this guy,” Poppy said as she eye humped the screen of her phone.
“What is wrong with us?” Steph asked. “We are empowered women. We are going to start our own company and take over the world!”
“Cheers,” I said as I reached for a shot glass.
The best way to shut Steph up was with alcohol in her mouth.
Steph put her arm around me and whispered into my ear, “There’s a cutie at the bar smiling at you. You should go for it.”
I looked at the bar.
A handsome guy in a suit nodded at me.
I smiled at him.
Of course Steph waved the guy over.
“What is wrong with you?” I asked. “We’re supposed to be having drinks together.”
“We have one rule here,” Steph said. “We always support sex over this. Okay?”
I hurried to meet the guy halfway to save him from the wrath of Steph.
Steph smacked my ass as I walked away from her.
“Sorry if I’m interrupting your night out,” the guy said.
