We all gathered at Jago’s net and began to hug.

The fans really did cheer us on.

That was the part that hit me the hardest.

I lifted my stick into the air and circled around the ice.

Mouthing the wordsthank youabout a hundred times before skating to the tunnel.

I was quickly pulled aside for a live television spot.

I spewed the regular stuff about us having a great team. Thanking the fans for always being there. And promising that next season theSOLA Empirewould be back with even more fire.

In the locker room, CoachDetomstood on a chair and gave a little speech.

He started to choke up and Rome threw a tissue box at him.

“Don’t touch those!” Jago yelled. “Those are Rome’s sticky tissues!”

Everyone groaned.

“You all know I throw the sticky tissues out!” Rome said.

More groans, then laughter.

And just like that, the hockey season ended.

An afternoon game and it was all over now.

Now we began thinking about next season. About training. About getting bigger, better, stronger.

About getting my best friend’s pain in the ass sister out of my apartment.

The real question lingering behind that?

Did I actually want her to leave?

I faced my locker-slash-cubby.

I let the entire season attempt to play through my head.

Instead, I thought about April.

Her bra.

Of all the dumb things to suddenly be obsessed about.

A woman’s bra.

As though I hadn’t seen, touched or taken off hundreds of them, right?

This was April though.

April. Auggie.

That dorky girl with all the braces…

A bottle of beer appeared in front of my face.
