“Evie, this is Damien, the Cirillo boss. Matteo, the Mariano boss. Luciana from the Riveras, and Reid. But I believe you’ve already met.”

What the fuck have I got myself into?

“You also know Stefanos,” he says, pointing to where more men stand to the side of Damien’s desk. “That’s Galen, Stella and Toby’s father. And Charon, the Cirillo consigliere.”

“The what?” I ask, a deep frown lining my brows.

A rumble of deep laughter fills the room.

“Their advisor.”

“Right,” I mutter. I have never felt more out of my depth in my entire life.

I thought getting up on a table to dance or climbing into a cage at a club was terrifying, but it really has nothing on this right now.

Any of these men, and woman, could kill me with one swift move and not lose one wink of sleep over it.

“Ant said you have something you’d like to discuss with us, Evie,” Damien says, sitting behind his massive mahogany desk looking as formidable as I’d expect being head of the Family.

“Umm…”

I stand there in the middle of this massive office filled with deadly gangsters, wondering what the hell happened to my quiet—albeit boring—life.

Unable to hold Damien’s eyes any longer, I look down at my feet, my gaze snagging on the gaudy carpet in surprise.

Ant’s shoulder brushes mine, dragging my thoughts back to this current moment.

“You want this, you need to prove you can handle it.”

Sucking in a deep breath, I lift my eyes once more, only this time, I catch Luciana’s large blue ones. Her beauty is breathtaking, but it’s her strength and confidence that really shine through. I’ve no doubt that if she wanted to, she could have all the men bending to her every whim.

“It’s okay, sweetie. We’re all on the same team here,” she says in a soft American accent.

Rolling my shoulders back, I look every single one of them in the eyes before I state, “I want you to make the trade.”

“No way,” Stefanos growls behind me. “Boss, we agreed that—”

Damien lifts his hand, silencing his capo in an instant.

“Let the girl speak.”

“Err… I didn’t really have any more than that to say.”

Reid smirks, while Luciana’s eyes lighten almost in pride.

“They want me in order to release them. So take me. I’ll do anything.”

“Do you know what you’re asking? What they’re likely to do with you in there?”

“I don’t care. Zay… he’s only eleven. What would you be doing right now if it were Atlas?”

His jaw tics as I mention his youngest son who’s become good friends with Zay in the short time Alex and I were at the cabin.

“I can’t hide out here, knowing they’re suffering in there because of me.”

“It’s not your fault,” Reid growls.

“Y-yeah, I know that. But it’s not their fault either.”
