“So I’m assuming you’re the mug she convinced to put her in that position in the first place?” Alex growls.
“She’s a hard woman to say no to.”
“That’s what Isla said,” Nico coughs.
“Dude,” Ant sighs. “Seriously?”
Nico shrugs before stealing a kiss and a pastry from his wife.
“He’s got a point. How is our lovely Isla?” Alex asks.
“Jesus, you lot are a pain in the arse,” Ant grumbles before resting back against the chest of drawers.
“How are you feeling?” Calli asks, who’s sitting on the edge of the bed on the other side of Alex with her hand resting on the duvet covering his legs.
“Yeah, you know. Like I always do after a solid impression of Jesus.”
She rolls her eyes at him.
“Good to know your stellar personality is still intact, bro,” Seb says.
“Pfft, you’d miss it and you know it.”
“Fucking hardly. You’re not even funny,” Theo quips.
“Funnier than you.”
“He’s got you there, Boss,” Emmie teases.
“So,” Alex says, his tone entirely different from a few moments ago. “What happened after I passed out?”
“Oh mate, it was so fucking beautiful. I can’t believe you missed it,” Seb says, grinning like an idiot.
“What happened?”
“We blew that place to kingdom fucking come. Don’t worry, we recorded it for you.”
Shimmying between us, Seb holds his phone so we can both see.
Seeing the church again makes me shudder as an intense wave of fear washes through me.
Alex glances over, sensing my unease. Pain flickers in his eyes that he can’t comfort me with Seb between us.
“Are you fucking watching or not?” he barks, dragging both our attention back to his screen.
Something flashes inside the building.
“Was that—”
“Wait,” he barks like a pissed-off parent scolding an impatient toddler.
There’s another flash, and then a fireball finally explodes out of the windows, instantly engulfing the building.
“Holy shit,” I breathe as the screen glows with the heat of the fire, anyone inside burning to a crisp.
“We really are going to hell, aren’t we?” Alex murmurs, his eyes glued to the video.
“We already had one-way tickets, Bro,” Daemon states. “Blowing up a church is just the cherry on the top.”
