“Yeah, it’s time we mocked the groom,” Chrissie states. “Mack, you must have some stories about the two of you.”

“Oh yeah,” he says with feeling. He meets Oliver’s eyes and grins. “You’ll never guess who I saw the other day.”

My brother gives him a wary look. “Who?”

“Simone Lafleur.”

“Oh God,” Victoria says, and the three of them start laughing.

“What’s this about?” Elizabeth asks suspiciously.

“We went to school with a friend called Kai,” Mack explains. “He works with me now at KoruTech. Well, when we were seventeen, he was dating a French exchange student called Simone Lafleur. We went over to his house one day. We were in the living room with Kai and Simone, playing on the PlayStation. His sister, his parents, and his grandmother were also there.”

“Mack had a Labrador called Moose,” Oliver explains. “Unbeknown to us, Moose had run off into Kai’s bedroom where Simone had obviously stayed over.”

“The dog came running in, carrying something,” Victoria says. “He dropped it on the carpet in front of us all. It was Simone’s vibrator.”

“Oh no!” I clap a hand over my mouth, while Sidnie dissolves into giggles, and everyone else laughs.

“Kai still gets embarrassed about it now,” Mack says. “Poor guy.”

“It’s a great story,” Chrissie states, “but not nearly embarrassing enough for Huxley.”

“We don’t embarrass our mates,” Mack replies. Then he looks at Saxon. “Apart from you, obviously.”

I chuckle. Saxon just snorts.

“Huxley embarrassed you well enough at your wedding,” Evie points out.

“That’s true, and I intend to return the favor in my speech,” he says. “Just not right now.”

“Well, we have some news instead,” Victoria says. She glances at Evie, who wrinkles her nose, then smiles at us. “Evie and I have decided to get married.”

“Oh my God!” I squeal, and everyone whoops and cheers. The two of them laugh as we surround them and exchange hugs and kisses.

“When?” Oliver asks.

“In the summer,” Victoria says, and she smiles at him.

“I’m so pleased for you,” he murmurs, and they have a big hug.

I cover my mouth, overcome with emotion. They’ve been friends for a long time, and Oliver has helped her through her transition over the years.

Saxon looks at Titus then. “Maybe now’s the time?” he asks.

Titus shakes his head, but Evie overheard and says, “What’s this?”

“Nothing that won’t wait,” he says, but she persists.

“Come on, if we’re all sharing news…”

“I don’t want to steal your thunder.”

Evie rolls her eyes. “Titus!”

Exasperated, he glances at me. “I wanted to do this privately. Sorry.”

“What’s going on?” Elizabeth asks.
