I knock on the door. After a few seconds, it opens to reveal Victoria, looking gorgeous in a cream trouser suit.

“Hello,” she says, surprised. “Everything all right?”

“Yeah. Hux is freaking out, though. I thought I’d just check on Elizabeth, and then I could report back that she’s still planning to tie the knot.”

She laughs and looks over her shoulder. “Elizabeth, is it okay if I let Titus in?”

“Yes, of course,” Elizabeth calls.

Victoria stands back, and I walk past her into the villa.

Quite a few women are in the large living room, either fussing around Elizabeth, who’s standing in the middle of the room, or making coffee, or just sitting chatting, including her sister, her mum, Helene Huxley, Joanna, Evie, Chrissie, and Victoria.

“Titus,” Evie calls out, and they all cheer.

“Hey.” I smile at Elizabeth as she turns to face me. She’s wearing a plain white satin dress with a high waist, so the material flows over her small bump. It has a V-neck and small lace sleeves, and it’s simple and beautiful. “Wow, you look like a million dollars.”

“Only a million?” She smiles back. “You don’t look so bad yourself.”

“In this old thing?” My navy bespoke suit was incredibly expensive, but it fits like a dream. Chrissie whistles, and I grin at her.

“He said Huxley’s freaking out,” Victoria states.

Elizabeth’s smile fades. “Oh no. What happened? He’s not… having second thoughts?”

“Jesus,” I say, “don’t you start! Of course not. He’s worried you’re not going to turn up.”

She rolls her eyes. “Seriously?”

“He said he’s ten times more nervous than when he jumped off the Sky Tower.”

Everyone in the room goes, “Awwww!”

She smiles. “Silly arse. Go and tell him I have no intention of letting him off the hook.”

I laugh. “I will.”

“How’s Heidi?” Evie asks.

I give her a wry look. “Don’t start.”

“I hope she’s giving Sir Richard plenty of exercise…”

I mumble under my breath and leave the villa, a ripple of laughter following me out.

After crossing to Mack’s place, I knock on the door again, and he lets me in.

“How is he?” I ask.

“He’s thrown up twice. I swear the guy went the same color as that.” He points to a fruit bowl on the table that’s a vivid forest green.

“It’s strange,” I comment. “They’re so happy together. She’s obviously going to turn up. All he’s got to do is say a few words and it’ll all be over.”

“Like I said, wait until it’s your turn. It’s so much more than that.”

“I just can’t see why making that commitment is scary.” The thought of marrying Heidi doesn’t frighten me; if anything, I feel exhilarated at the thought.

“It’s not that,” Mack says. “It’s humbling to think someone else is promising to be with you for the rest of their life. You start asking yourself: what happens when they realize you’re not worth it? It’s terrifying.”
