I tilt my head to the side, and he continues.

“When I see this apartment, this fresh beginning, it doesn’t feel right unless you’re here too.”

“What are you saying?”

“I’m saying I want you here, Brooke. With me. Us, together, in this apartment, waking up to each other every morning and falling asleep beside each other every night.”

I’m pretty sure my heart just escaped my throat and ran across the floor and entered Chase’s body. “You want me to move in with you?”

“Yes. I miss living with you.”

I nod. I miss living with him too.

“So you will?” he asks to clarify, and I break down into tears yet again. This time, though, they’re very, very happy.

Sure, it might seem insane for me to move in with him, but when you know you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you don’t wait.

You shouldn’t wait.

The rest of your life starts right now.

Which is why my answer comes easily and excitedly. “Yes!”

He covers my mouth with his own once more, taking me in a kiss that I could write another entire novel about. And with the way this one turned out, I might not even stop myself from doing it.

“That’s good,” he murmurs against my lips when we finally pull apart.

“It is?”

“Yep. Because Sammy, Mo, and Vinny already went to get your stuff.”

God, I love him.

I smile and stare deep into his eyes. “And they lived happily ever after?”

“Definitely,” he answers before giving me the kind of kiss that tastes like forever.

Okay, God. I’m good right here.

Hurry. Someone say “The End.”

Four months later…

Brooke

Oh, what a magical night. Twinkle lights dance in the windows of The St. Regis Roof Ballroom, and a view of Fifth Avenue and Central Park lies beyond them.

Accidental Attachment is officially one with the world, and to my greatest shock and early horror, the world is one with it as well. It’s been out for almost two weeks and, in that time, has sold an incredible five hundred thousand copies.

Pink paperbacks with scrolling yellow letters saturate the hands of subway riders and sidewalk walkers alike, and women rave about Clive Watts on every inch of the internet.

It’s officially a hit, and tonight, Longstrand is hosting this swanky party to celebrate.

And with Chase at my side, I’m excited about all of it.

Yep. My cup runneth over and then some. Because as of now, Brooke Baker has it going on.

I mean, it’s not every day you write a book about your crush, work on that book with your crush while you spend nearly a month on a motor home together, find yourself falling in love with your crush, and then, not only do you publish that book, but you do it with that very man standing beside you the entire time, as a couple.

In the world of romance novels, this is what you’d call the ultimate meet-cute turned HEA.

And to be the girl who gets to experience the kind of love I feel when I’m with Chase, well, it goes without saying that I’m blessed.

We are that Lana Del Rey song “Lucky Ones” come to life.

Sigh. Yeah. We really are the lucky ones.

Through the crowd of drink-holding partygoers, I spot a flurry of white-and-black fur prancing through the main doors of the ballroom, and with the way my Spider-Man-costume-wearing buddy at my side starts to fidget, I can tell I’m not the only one.

Benji barks at Dolly to say hello, and without warning, she rushes the leash and yanks it out of her owner Noah’s hand. He laughs, thankfully having had the good sense to let go before it could pull through his palm and singe off his million-dollar, anesthesiologist hands.

Dolly is beautifully trussed-up with a big pink bow, and Benji’s immediate crowding is a sign that he appreciates his pretty girl’s effort.

I have to say, I appreciate it too. It’s pretty thoughtful of a sweet dog like Dolly—and her overtly masculine owner, who’s wearing a pink tie himself—to have taken the time to match the theme of the release party for the newest #1 New York Times best seller, Accidental Attachment.

Yes, that is the sound of me screaming loud enough to be heard in all five boroughs, thank you very much.

And evidently, the spirit guides, the rulers of destiny, never miss. Not only did they lead me to Chase, but they’ve brought a woman into my best buddy’s life who’s full of class and confidence, just like her namesake—yep, Dolly Parton.

It’s freaky how the world works sometimes and, to be completely honest, how good of a friend Noah has become. Since our initial meeting with him in Central Park, just three short days after Chase’s and my emotional reunion, we’ve gotten together at least two times a week, every week, no matter our other obligations.

All in the name of Benji and Dolly’s budding doggie romance.
