Wait.

He really wanted to be my Daddy for the night?

He was the weirdest sub I’d ever met…but I wasn’t sure that was a bad thing.

I still wasn’t sure what to say, though.

“You don’t have to. I don’t mind playing by myself.” I had a great imagination and lots of toys…I was just missing a few things like confidence around strangers.

My polite response didn’t make him back down from his exciting new idea.

Daddying me.

“It’ll be fun. I haven’t had an excuse to make nuggets and mac and cheese in ages.” He paused, then charged right back in. “Oh, what about spaghetti?”

My stomach thought it all sounded wonderful, but I still wasn’t sure it was a good idea.

I meant to tell him that…I really did.

“I like nuggets and applesauce.” Shit. How had that escaped? “I mean—”

Bishop seemed to only hear the part he wanted to. “That’s a great plan. What’s your work schedule this week? We both know how flexible mine is.”

That got a chuckle out of me.

“Yeah.” A vacation would do that. He was just on vacation, right? “I’m pretty packed this week, but Friday is a lighter day for me. I could get off early.”

Shit.

Why had I told him that?

That sidetracked him. “Why are you that busy? I thought you were just exaggerating so we could have more time together this morning instead of rushing later in the week. Oh, did you decide to do on-camera work? I know you’d look fabulous in that red number Wesley wore a few weeks ago. I—”

“Wait.” I shook my head. “No red numbers.”

At least I managed to get that out without stumbling.

But as Bishop nodded, I knew there was a catch. “Pink. You’d look good in pink, you’re right.”

Good grief.

“We’re working on upgrading the site again. It’s giving us some headaches, though. We’re hoping to get it done by Thursday night so we can have a long weekend because it’s been a pain in the ass.” Thankfully, the work talk distracted him from the color discussion.

“Bigger pain in the ass than Eli or less than Eli?”

His question made me laugh. “Bigger than Eli but not by much.”

Eyes widening, he nodded slowly. “Then that explains the long hours this week. You sure you’ll be free on Friday? I can wait if you think that won’t work.”

How long was he going to be in town?

“No, we’ve got a few long nights this week, but if we’re not done by Friday then something has gone drastically wrong.” And if it got to that point, Reece would go insane.

He had the patience of a saint…right up until a certain point.

“Great. Then Friday it is and we’ll plan on me making dinner at your place.” His words left my mouth gaping and I knew I looked ridiculous, but he conveniently ignored that part. “I figure your place is easiest because you have your toys and all your goodies.”

Goodies?

How little could I get without him thinking it was weird?

Nope, that was not the question I should’ve been thinking about. Unfortunately, my brain got stuck. “I have my stuff.”

Duh.

“Great.” Bishop’s excited tone just barreled right over my obviously brain-dead response. “We’ll figure out an exact time later this week and I’m going to have lots of questions to make sure I’m planning everything right.”

Questions?

Friday?

Really?

“Okay.” When had I lost my marbles?

“Perfect.” He beamed, picking at his muffin again. “It’s a date.”

A date?

What kind of date?

A playdate?

A date-date?

A figure of speech date?

Wasn’t he dating Cohen?

When I realized I couldn’t answer a single one of my random questions, I sighed. “Yep, it’s a date.”

Kind of.

When had friendships gotten this complicated?

Chapter 10

Bishop

“If you keep disappearing like this, I’m going to have to come find you and kill you.” Archer was doing his best to sound frustrated and rough, but his pretend Dom voice was so cute I laughed.

He was smart and funny and kinky as hell, but there wasn’t a dominant bone in the guy’s body.

Rolling my eyes as I laughed and stretched out on the guest bed in Wesley’s house, I shrugged even though he couldn’t see me over the phone. “I’m like half an hour from you at this point, literally just the other side of town. What’s stopping you?”

We’d always been online or phone buddies, so I knew as shy as he was it would be hard to move from the safety of the internet to the real world. But I had to give him shit for it because that was to be expected.

“Because it’s weird. You’re supposed to be like ten years away, not right around the corner.” The whine in his voice had me trying not to laugh again.

“You’re insane.” And hilarious. And one of my best friends. “But since I seem to attract the most interesting people to my life, I’m just going to shrug and accept it.”

Because questioning it and all the insanity I’d run into at Leashes & Lace wouldn’t help my mental state.
