And watching, but I didn’t think he needed to hear firsthand what kind of internet rabbit hole I’d fallen down.

“Really?” After a short pause, Ian realized he’d done the one-word question thing again and laughed softly. “Okay, I didn’t mean to do that. But I was…surprised, I guess.”

I wasn’t sure why, but then again, this was new for all of us.

“I like being well-informed and Bishop was very excited about being your Daddy.” Very excited. “I didn’t want there to be a whole aspect of his life that I didn’t understand, so I’ve been educating myself and Bishop hasn’t been shy about answering my questions.”

I meant it in the most respectful way possible, most of the time at least, but the dirty cutie groaned.

Laughing, I made a tsking sound and shook my head even though he couldn’t see me. “Are you imagining dirty things? Such a naughty boy. I’m going to have to tell your Daddy.”

I was going to have fun telling his Daddy, and his embarrassed squeak said he knew it. “I…you’ll…”

When that was about all he seemed to be able to get out, I grinned and had to tease him again. “Your Daddy is going to be shocked. He thinks you’re sweet and innocent.”

A quiet giggle came through the phone before he could catch it. “I think you’re just looking to get another bribe.”

Possibly.

It seemed like it’d worked based on the happy sounds he couldn’t quite hold back.

“Let’s not call it a bribe.” I gave him my best used car salesman voice. “Think of it as relationship negotiations.”

I grinned as giggles came through the phone again, this time definitely not as grown-up as when he’d laughed before. Taking my cue from his tone, I made a thinking sound. “Hmm, maybe if you let me read you a book tonight, I’ll keep your secret.”

“Like…like little time tonight?” There was something sweet in his voice that had me wishing he was right there with me so I could actually see his little side popping out. “You want to have little time too?”

I wanted anything that would make him happy, so I found myself nodding. “Yes, cutie. I’ll work out the details with your Daddy, but how about we have dinner and little time at your place so you can show me your toys.”

I wasn’t exactly sure what being little looked like to him, but from everything Bishop had said, books and cuddles and binkies were at the top of his list.

“You’ll talk to Daddy?” The simple question seemed filled with meaning to him, but I wasn’t sure what he was thinking.

“Yes, your Daddy and I will talk about dinner and figure everything out.” Glancing over at the clock on the stove, I mentally juggled a few things around. “And he’ll tell me if you’ve been good enough for me to bring over a surprise.”

“A surprise?” There was a pause, and I mentally pictured him shaking his head when his tone came back with a more grown-up feel. “What kind of surprise?”

“That’s for me to know and you to find out.” I bit back a laugh as Ian huffed. “Now, go back to work and ignore the nosy busybodies that are hovering just outside your door.”

“I’m going to tell Daddy you were mean to me.” Then the cute little brat blew a raspberry into the phone and hung up as I shook my head.

Naughty boys and naughty pups were definitely made for each other.

Chapter 5

Bishop

“I might’ve done something.” Cohen’s tone was lighthearted, but he sounded like a kid who’d decided to tattle on himself. “But you’re not going to mind.”

He was so odd sometimes.

“Then I’m glad you did it.” Thankfully, there was no one around to hear how curiously the conversation was going, so I just relaxed back against the bed and stretched out my legs. “Did you have fun doing it?”

The bark of laughter that came through the phone had me grinning even wider. “Yes.”

It sounded like there wasn’t anything to worry about then.

“Am I supposed to ask what you’ve done or is this going to be a surprise?” Neither would’ve been unexpected, but I was hoping this wouldn’t end up being a guessing game.

“I’ll tell you.” His cheerful tone was cut off as he cursed. “Fuck. I forgot about my coffee.”

There seemed to be a story there, but I let him grumble for a few minutes about distracting boys and pups as I thought I heard him moving around his kitchen. When he sighed into the phone after taking a sip of what I was assuming was his coffee, I grinned. “Do you even remember why you called me?”

The silence dragged on just long enough that I laughed. “You said you’d done something?”

“Oh yes.” His distracted professor routine was cute, but now he had me curious. “I got a call from Preston. Has anyone from L and L been calling you?”
