“I’m tempted to say that’s adorable and swoony, but I’m going to withhold that comment until I find out how, exactly, perfect breasts came up in that context.”

“Ryan said, ‘I’m sitting in a restaurant across from a woman with perfect breasts and all I can think about is wanting to see Samantha again.’ He sounded pretty tortured.”

“Not so tortured he didn’t notice his date’s perfect breasts.”

Henn laughs. “Touché.”

“Still, that’s a pretty romantic story.”

“I think so, too. That’s why I told Ryan I’ll keep looking for the flight attendant. One way or another, I’ll find her.”

“Aw, you’re such a sweetheart.”

“What can I say? I’m a sucker for true love.”

I crawl onto Henn’s lap and straddle him on the couch. “Add that to the list of things I love about you. Damn, this list is becoming unwieldy. Thoroughly unmanageable.” I lean down and kiss him—and predictably, our kiss quickly becomes heated. Which, in turn, leads to full-scale making out. Before our passion leads to actual sex, however, I remember the fitting for my bridesmaid dress. When I look at the time, I’ve got to go.

“My apologies to your boner,” I say. “I have to go to a fitting now.”

Henn leans his head back and sighs. “Fitting?”

“For my bridesmaid dress. Remember?”

“Oh yeah. Can I come? Is it bad luck for me to see you in the dress before the big day?”

“I think that only applies to the bride and groom. We’re not main characters in this wedding movie, babe. We’re not even co-stars.”

“We’re lowly extras?”

“No, I’d say we’re humorous sidekicks.”

“I can live with that.”

“Me, too.”

Henn bites his lip. “Can you imagine yourself as the main character in a wedding movie at some point?”

I bite back a smile. For a while now, I’ve been able to imagine myself marrying Henn one day, perhaps because finally living in the same city with him has given me some much-needed confirmation that we’re as compatible as we seemed when our relationship was long-distance. Also, Kat’s excitement about her upcoming wedding has been infectious. Without meaning to do it, I keep finding myself comparing Josh and Kat’s choices and selections to ones I’d make when it’s my turn to get married to Henn.

“I can imagine it pretty clearly, as a matter of fact,” I answer coyly.

Henn’s eyebrows shoot up. “When you imagine it, is it my face on the groom’s body or a question mark?”

I take his hand. “Of course, it’s your face. I can’t imagine marrying anyone else.”

Henn is lit up with excitement. “Okay, baby. When we get back from Josh and Kat’s wedding, how about we start seriously looking for a house for me to buy. Whatever I get, I want you to love it as much as I do, so you’ll want to move into it with me, eventually.”

“I’d love to go house-hunting with you. But, Henny, I’m probably not going to move in with you for at least a year.”

“I know. But even after Maddy moves down, you’ll sleep at my place a couple times a week, right, and I’ll continue sleeping here regularly, too?”

“Of course.” I look down at the time. “Shit. I really have to go. I noticed a little Sushi place down the street when I was there last time. If you come with me, we could eat there after my fitting.”

“Cool. But only if you promise something.” Henn winks. “That we’re gonna feast till our stomachs’ delight.”

HANNAH

Am I sleeping?

Is this a beautiful, Hawaiian dream?

Nope. It’s real life, bitches! Courtesy of our generous hosts, the soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs. Faraday.

It’s the first full day of Josh and Kat’s weeklong wedding extravaganza in Maui, and it’s already the best vacation of my life. This morning, Josh and Kat and all two hundred of their wedding guests were bussed to the top of a dormant volcano called Haleakala, where we were treated to a sunrise guided bicycle tour down to the bottom. When we returned to the resort, the whole group descended upon the resort’s massive swimming pool area for lunch, cocktails, and a bit of relaxation before tonight’s festivities. While some went to the main pool, Henn and I headed to the lazy river to float around in innertubes, cocktails in hand, with a group that included Kat, Josh, Reed, Jonas, Sarah, and a few of Josh’s and Kat’s respective college friends. And that’s where we’ve been ever since. In a few hours, it’ll be time to head to the suite to get ready for tonight’s luau and subsequent concert by 22 Goats—the rock band fronted by Kat’s little brother, Dax, and his two best friends, Colin and Fish. But for now, we’re soaking in the Hawaiian sun and enjoying our cocktails and everyone’s company.

“Bathroom break!” Sarah calls out next to me from her inner tube. I open my eyes and discern she’s talking to her husband, Jonas. Not to me. But her comment makes me realize my bladder is full.
