Page 2 of Her Three Bosses

“And that’s my smoothie all over your shirt.” Maybe I was having a nightmare? How could this get worse? “And I’m late for my first day. Shit.”

“Don’t worry about it; I can grab an extra shirt.” He smiled, making my heart flip over in my chest. Honestly, the years had beenunfairlykind to him. That smile of his was even more swoon-worthy now with the stubble on his jaw. “What job are you starting?”

“An executive assistant to the three new owners.” I checked my watch. Shit. “Who are probably furious at me for being late.”

I’d been an executive assistant in the past for powerful men, and they could be enormous assholes. And the idea of being an assistant to not one, but three of them, was probably going to be worse. But the pay was great, so who was I to complain?

“They won’t be,” he said. “Or at least, I’m not.”

I stared at him for a moment before it clicked.

I’d just dumped a whole smoothie on the guy I’d had a crush on in high school. Who was also now my boss.

Great.

CHAPTER2

Lucas

Seeing Brooke again after all these years was a total shock to the system. Had I gotten an email about her being our assistant? We’d tasked an employment agency to find the perfect person, and we’d accepted it without question. We had a lot of work to do with this casino, and we didn’t want to micromanage that process.

And now we had Brooke.

We hadn’t run in the same circles back in high school, but I had enough classes with her to know her and chat with her every once in a while. She’d been cute back then. Her dark brown hair was always in a no-nonsense ponytail, and she had non-trendy glasses, the spray of freckles across her nose adding to her bookish, awkward vibe. Our uniforms weren’t designed to be attractive, so her body had been hidden under a misshapen sweater vest and plaid skirt that was no higher than an inch above her knee, as the uniform standard required.

But now, she was a knockout. She still had silky, dark brown hair and freckles, but her green eyes weren’t hidden by her glasses anymore. And her curves were going to be the kind of problem I wanted to have. Her body was lush and soft-looking, even under her completely business-appropriate outfit. I hadn’t even seen her from the back yet, but I knew the way the fabric hugged her ass was going to be hard to ignore.

“How have you been?” she asked. Had I been staring? “It’s been a really long time.”

“Good.” I ran my hand through my hair. “Really good, actually. As vague as that is.”

She snorted. “I mean, I asked the first question. How can we condense the ten years between graduation and now easily?”

“Good point. Though I guess that’s what the ten-year reunion was supposed to be for.” I shrugged.

“Did you go?” she asked. “I got the invitation, but honestly, revisiting those days doesn’t sound like fun.”

“What, you didn’t want to stand around making small talk with people you purposefully haven’t kept in touch with?” I grinned. “At a luau themed party with god-awful punch? Held in our illustrious school gym that somehow always has pigeons in the rafters despite all the renovations?”

“Definitely not.” She laughed. “God, I forgot about the pigeons. I remember one pooped on me during gym class once. As if I needed to hate that class more.”

“Did the gym teacher tell you it was good luck?” I asked. “Because he told me it was, then told me to keep running.”

“Yep, he did.” Brooke laughed again. Her laugh was warm and musical, like her voice. Sexy voices were underrated. “He was such a dick.”

“He was on a power trip all the time.” I shook my head. “I haven’t thought about that in a long time.”

“Honestly, most of high school was pretty cringey for the most part.” She looked me up and down. Obviously, I was still dripping in purple-ish smoothie, but was that a flicker of interest in her eyes? “Are you getting cold with all that smoothie on you?”

“A bit,” I said. “I should change and introduce you to Hunter and Chase so we can get the day going.”

I led her to her desk and told her to wait there while I changed. I’d purchased the penthouse at the top of the casino building, so I just had to run upstairs. Once I was in a fresh shirt, I texted Hunter and Chase to meet us in one of our conference rooms. We had to meet up, anyway, so getting there early wasn’t a huge deal.

We got there first, and I sat next to Brooke. She fidgeted with her pen and notebook, sometimes trying to adjust her hair. The movement sent waves of her floral perfume my way, making my cock stir. Something about a woman’s perfume got to me, even at a distance. It gave me a hint of what she’d smell like up close, my face buried into her neck.

Moments later, Hunter and Chase came in.

“You must be Brooke,” Chase said with a smile. I knew him well enough to see the quick flicker of curiosity in his eyes when he looked at her. I hadn’t seen that from him in a long time, not since his fiancé dumped him. “I’m Chase Edwards.”
