Hunter fucked her in earnest until he found his release, too. He gasped for air, bracing himself on his hands so he didn’t crush her. Our gazes met moments later, a surprising understanding flowing between us. This had changed things, but not in a bad way. If anything, I felt closer to him as a friend now that we’d unlocked this new side of Brooke. I wanted to see where things went next.
CHAPTER14
Chase
After we caught the cheaters last night, something changed between Brooke, Hunter, and Lucas. Besides the obvious—that we had caught some of these criminals and hopefully this was the end of the whole situation, getting rid of a source of stress for all of us. It was subtle, but there. The way the three of them stood near each other, or the way that they put their hands on Brooke’s shoulders as they looked at something on her screen.
Something more intimate. Maybe it was the fact that they’d consoled her right after she was nearly attacked, but something else had to have been happening. And given what Lucas and Brooke had done before, I needed to ask them what was going on.
I waited until our regular meeting at the end of the day. People didn’t dare to eavesdrop on us, but I didn’t want to risk it with something this sensitive.
“I’m heading out,” Brooke said, peering into my office.
“Okay,” I said. “Drive safely.”
“Thanks.” She gave me a shy wave and left.
I got up and watched her leave, my eyes falling to her ass for a second before I pulled it together. I’d been letting myself slip up more often that I should have when it came to checking her out. The combination of her sweet, warm personality with her body made it so much harder to keep myself in line.
Once she was gone for a few minutes, I met up with Hunter and Lucas in the conference room. The two of them were in good spirits, chatting with each other. I expected that from Lucas, but not from Hunter. Hunter being openly warm was so weird to see.
“What’s up?” Lucas asked once I sat down.
“Did something happen with you two and Brooke?” I asked. No need to be indirect.
The two exchanged looks, then turned back to me.
“Well, yeah,” Lucas said, rubbing the back of his neck. “All three of us had sex after the cheaters were caught.”
“Okay.”
I nodded, and my two closest friends waited for me to properly respond. Lucas was more outwardly worried about my reaction. But to my surprise, now that they’d admitted they had, I didn’t feel jealous. But a knot of anxiety surface in my chest.
“Okay?” Hunter asked, raising an eyebrow. “That’s all you have to say?”
“Are you mad?” Lucas’s brows furrowed.
“No, I’m not mad about that at all,” I said. “I’m more worried about the fact that we’re her bosses. And now you guys are fucking.”
Lucas’s shoulders relaxed. “So, you aren’t jealous.”
“No,” I reiterated. “Why?”
“Because it seems like you have feelings for her, too. Or at least you’re very attracted to her,” Hunter said. “Are you?”
I paused, biting my bottom lip. “I am attracted to her, yes. But you know my past with women.”
Hunter and Lucas exchanged another look that made me more irritated than the fact that they were fucking our assistant.
“What?” I asked, almost a bark. “What are you two thinking about?”
“It’s just that it’s been a few years since Stephanie,” Lucas said with a shrug, holding both hands up in front of himself as if he was ready to shield off an attack. “Is it something more with Brooke?”
Lucas never tried to rile me up just to get a reaction. He cared about how I felt and wasn’t asking just to be a dick. But the fact that he was asking at all had me worried. I wasn’t like him, showing everything I felt out in the open.
“Am I that obvious?” I asked.
“Yeah,” Hunter said with a snort. “You are. It makes sense that you want her, too. She’s smart, beautiful, and her curves are made for fucking.”
