“Hey.” The corner of Hunter’s lips quirked up at me. “Are you afraid of us?”
“No.”
“Then why are you so far away?” Lucas got up and moved closer to me. “There we go.”
The clean scent of his soap wafted past me as he sat, making my stomach twist and turn even more. I took a long sip of my coffee, as if that would make my out-of-control stomach calmer.
“Am I in trouble?” I asked, as if I had just been called to the principal’s office. I cringed inwardly.
“No, of course not.” Hunter said. “We just wanted to talk about what happened the other day.”
“It’s fine if it was just a one-night thing,” I blurted, my face hot. “I mean, assuming you guys were thinking that?”
“No, we weren’t thinking that at all.” Lucas put his hand on my wrist, the size of it covering it with ease. “We were thinking the opposite. That we want to make it more.”
I gaped at him, then at Hunter. Lucas was much more likely to joke around, but he was dead serious. Hunter was serious, too.
“And by more, you mean…” I grasped for the proper word. “You want to date me? Both of you.”
“Exactly.” Lucas ran his thumb back and forth across my arm. “It’s unusual, yeah, but we think we could make it work. Hunter and I wouldn’t be with each other, but we’d each be with you.”
My head started spinning. “Wait. Both of you. With me.”
“Yes,” Hunter said, a hint of amusement in his tone. “Sex. Dates. The normal stuff, but with the two of us. The things that people who have feelings for each other do together.”
I squeezed the bridge of my nose. This was the complete opposite of what I thought was going to happen. Me. Dating two of mybosses.
“But you’re my bosses,” I said.
“We know.” Hunter ran his fingers through his hair. “We’ve talked about it, and we agree that we’ll have to keep our arrangement separate from the office.”
“So no desk sex,” Lucas said, a faux-pout on his face. “Home office sex isn’t really the same.”
“That you know of.” The heated look in Hunter’s eyes made me throb between my thighs. “I’d like to find out.”
I wanted to find out, too. But my rational side kicked in. I had just been thinking about how much this couldn’t work on my drive in, and I had some solid points.
The warmth I felt when they looked at me won out, though. I wanted them, and they said they wanted me. But the idea of being in a relationship, something official, scared the hell out of me.
“I have feelings for both of you, too,” I said, spreading my hands on the table. “And I want to do this deep down. But I don’t know how to do it, either. I don’t want to put a label on this, because I feel like if I do, it’ll… You know…”
I mimed an explosion, and Lucas nodded, though the disappointment was clear in his blue eyes.
“Will you let us take you out, though?” Lucas asked. “Show you how a relationship—or something serious—would look like with us?”
“We can do whatever you want,” Hunter added. “Or we can surprise you. Whatever will give you the confidence to give this a chance.”
The two of them wanted this, badly. I’d never seen Hunter openly want something this much.
“Okay, sure,” I said. “Take me out on a date. Let’s make it a surprise.”
CHAPTER16
Hunter
I’d never been more nervous about a date in my life. Then again, I hadn’t gone on many as an adult, much less one where I was taking a woman out with one of my best friends. Lucas and I had texted back and forth, trying to put together the perfect night out for her. All we knew was that we didn’t want to be anywhere near the strip, and we wanted to make it nice, but not so extravagant that she’d feel overwhelmed.
We’d sent a car to pick up Brooke from her place and bring her to this restaurant, which we’d rented out for the night. Lucas had off-handedly heard Brooke talking about how much she loved pizza—the real stuff, not the cheap stuff that you got from chain restaurants—so we figured this restaurant with an enormous stone pizza oven would be the best spot. The chef, Giovanni, had been featured on every popular cooking show out there, so he wasn’t easy to pin down.
