“You’re so beautiful, you know that?” Lucas said to me, kissing the top of my head.

I was already fading into sleep, but I snuggled up closer to Lucas’s chest.

CHAPTER21

Hunter

The next few weeks were perfect. Brooke took to her new role in the office right away, and we quickly found someone from the same agency who was able to handle the smaller admin tasks that Brooke couldn’t do anymore. We worked together, managing to keep our hands to ourselves, until everyone else went home.

Then, the fun started.

If we were alone in the office, one of us usually fucked Brooke on a desk, one of her favorite spots. Other nights, we ended up at Lucas’s, since it was just upstairs. Lucas had even gotten a new bed that was easier for us to all fit on comfortably, and Brooke had a bunch of clothes over at Lucas’s in case she fell asleep there.

None of our employees had noticed, at least that we knew about.

It would have been almost too good to believe if the casino wasn’t still struggling. The marketing team had fucked up, and our customers still weren’t coming back in large numbers. And to make matters worse, the file on Trevor had come across my desk.

“So it was him,” I said to Chase, who had a private investigator friend, who was an excellent hacker, look into Trevor from the marketing team. He did a terrible job of hiding his data on the internet, so the hacker hadn’t had to work all that hard to get information on him. “He was the one bribing the security team to look the other way? On what money?”

“That’s what we didn’t find out.” Chase sat down across from me, absently tugging at his beard. “I just asked the hacker to dig until he found something. I can have him keep looking. He had to have gotten something in exchange for letting all those criminals cheat so openly.”

I ran my hand over my face. “We need to fire him. And after that, we can have Mac pay him a visit to rough him up for being a scamming piece of shit.”

I could trust Mac. I once again thought about my childhood, and all the ways I could have gotten in with the wrong crowd and into a life of crime. I trusted Mac, though, and since I saved his life, I knew I could trust him to come through for me.

I picked up the phone and dialed Trevor’s extension.

“You’re doing it now?” Chase asked.

“Yeah. Have you seen how much money the marketing team has blown with next to no results?” I scoffed. “I can’t get him out of here fast enough.”

Trevor appeared at my door moments later, confusion on his face.

“Come in. Sit.” I gestured for him to sit down next to Chase.

“What’s going on?” Trevor asked.

“You’re fired,” I said. I didn’t like to mince words when I let people go. It only made things worse. “We have some evidence that you were bribing the security staff to look the other way while our casino filled up with criminals. And that nearly led to one of our other employees getting seriously hurt.”

Trevor’s mouth popped open, but he didn’t speak.

“And your performance with the marketing team has seriously fallen short,” Chase added. “We gave you extra money, and you’ve squandered it.”

“But… wait.” Trevor shifted in his seat, holding up a hand. “You can’t be serious.”

“I’m dead serious.” I glanced at the door. “You’re lucky we gave you a chance when we took over. You can pack up your things and go. Your last paycheck will be direct deposited, as always.”

Trevor’s neck turned red, and an angry vein appeared on his forehead, but he didn’t explode. Probably because he knew that he was much smaller than both me and Chase and didn’t have a chance.

“Fuck this,” Trevor said, standing up so quickly that his chair tipped back. “I hope this place fucking collapses.”

I followed him as he left, watching him pack up his things. He didn’t have much. Everyone watched, not caring that they were staring at us. Trevor’s face was beet red as he walked all the way to the elevator.

“Get back to work,” I said, making everyone scramble back to their desks. I stormed back to my office, Chase behind me.

“I’ll handle his paperwork,” Chase said. “And I’ll contact the staffing agency to get new security.”

“We’ll have to split up the firing duties.” I sighed. “Thanks for handling that other shit.”
