I already knew the answer to that. Hell, no.

But did I really care?

That answer I wasn’t so sure about.

CHAPTERSIX

Mia

I wasn’t sure what to expect as we arrived at Logan’s grandpa’s house. This all seemed to be happening so quickly. Just two days ago, I was just his assistant, and he was just my moody, sexy boss.

Now, I was about to meet his family and we were going to have to play the part of an in-love and engaged couple. We were on the fast-track, and I felt like whiplash could occur at any moment.

Logan was driving again, and I peered out the window as he turned into a long, circular driveway. The mansion that stood in front of us looked like something out of a magazine. It was massive and stately with white siding and square columns on the porch. There were gabled dormers projecting from the sloping roofline and a balcony above the porch.

I was wearing a dark blue dress that complimented my figure, but as we walked up the limestone steps to the porch, I started to wonder if it was too low cut. I had always had large breasts, so a little cleavage was usually on display with any neckline that didn’t go right up to my throat, but I was suddenly worried that Logan’s family would have a problem with it.

“Don’t be nervous,” Logan said as we stopped in front of the door.

“How’d you know I was nervous?” I asked, surprised he could read me so easily.

He smiled at me, something I knew I could easily get used to. “You bite your lip when you’re worried.”

Oh.

“Do I look okay?” I asked, then immediately wished I hadn’t. I didn’t usually have confidence issues, even when meeting the family ofrealboyfriends in the past. “You know what? Nevermind. Let’s do this.”

“That’s my girl,” he said, before ringing the doorbell. “And just for the record, you look fantastic.”

Those words made my heart stutter, but I didn’t have time to react before the door was pulled open by an older man that had to be Logan’s grandpa. They had the exact same piercing blue eyes. The man’s hair was grey, unlike Logan’s thick dark brown locks, but their facial structure was similar, with strong jawlines and straight noses.

This was what Logan would look like in fifty years, I realized.

“You must be Mia,” he said, stepping forward and taking my hand in both of his. “It’s nice to meet you.”

There was a relaxed, easy warmth in his eyes that I’d never seen from Logan. It made a world of difference, transforming the older man’s face so that it was welcoming and warm and immediately made me feel at ease.

“Thank you,” I said, my eyes flickering over his shoulder as an older woman came into view.

She was tall for a woman, probably nearing six feet, and her blonde hair was a mass of curls. She had glittering diamonds in her earlobes and around her neck, and she was stunningly beautiful.

“Logan, why don’t you come inside and introduce her toeveryone,” she called out in a lofty voice.

I saw him scowl out of the corner of my eye, but he put his hand at the small of my back to lead me into the foyer. The warmth of his touch seeped through the thin fabric of my dress, and I automatically relaxed.

“Hello, mom,” Logan greeted her with a less than enthusiastic tone.

“Logan, you’re looking tired. Are you getting enough sleep?” Her hand went to his arm and she looked concerned for a moment before she turned her eyes to me. “I hope that question doesn’t make you uncomfortable, dear.”

“What?” I asked, hoping that I misunderstood her.

“I’m just saying, you look young, and I hope that you’re not keeping my son up late at night when he needs to get some sleep,” she said in a lightly chiding tone. “He runs a whole company, you know.”

“I’m only thirty-five, mom,” Logan grumbled, pulling his arm away from her. “I’m not some old man.”

Thatwas his problem with what she said? I was mortified by the sexual insinuation in her comment.

“Come on, Mom,” Hayden said, walking into the foyer. “Don’t embarrass my soon to be new sister.”
