So, we wouldn’t starve, no matter how long we were here. I didn’t want to get ahead of myself, but the plane was clearly not going to be taking us anywhere when this storm was over and who knew how long it would be before we had any cell service.

“So, are we able to get any electricity?”

I turned around at the sound of Rylee’s voice to find her standing in the kitchen with her arms crossed over her breasts. I suspected she was trying to cover her chest a little, because the dress had a plunging V-neckline that was designed to put a woman’s assets on display. It also barely covered her ass, leaving her long, toned legs bare for my eyes to skim over hungrily.

My mouth went dry as my cock grew heavy in my pants. Christ, she was gorgeous.

“Hello? Did you hear me?” she asked, and I forced my gaze to return to her face. The fire in her eyes did nothing to kill my desire.

“Uh…”

What did she ask about?

Oh, right. Electricity.

“There’s a generator for the house, but it’s out back,” I said, trying to unscramble my brains. “I don’t think it’s safe to go out there right now, but I should be able to fire it up when the storm passes.”

“And you know what you’re doing, right?” She didn’t bother trying to hide her caustic tone.

I eyed her curiously. “You don’t like me very much, do you?”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” she said, a little too quickly to be believable. “I barely know you.”

With that, she turned away and strutted out of the room.

She was lying, that much was clear. I had no idea what her problem was with me, but I didn’t really mind her attitude. We’d been through a lot in the last hour, so it was natural for emotions to run high.

It was also kind of refreshing to be around someone that wasn’t going to kiss my ass just because I was rich.

Besides, she was beautiful, even when she scowled.

CHAPTERTHREE

Rylee

This was not a good day.

I couldn’t believe that I was stuck on the Reid’s private island, in their house, while a storm raged outside. I was also dressed like a stripper, which wasnotmy idea of a good time. The worst part was that I was trapped here with Hayden Reid, whose seemingly carefree attitude was already getting on my nerves.

Or maybe I was just on edge because of what happened on the plane.

The landing had been absolutely terrifying. I’d been on over a hundred flights spanning the last three years, but I’d never experienced anything more intense than turbulence. An emergency crash landing was the last thing I expected.

Evelyn owed me so big for this.

I checked my phone for the third time since we arrived, letting out a frustrated sigh when I saw that there was still no signal. I’d spotted a radio in the study that we could use to try to call for help, but it needed electricity to work. The storm was so severe, there was no telling how long the outage was going to last.

I was trying not to let anxiety get to me, but it was hard when my adrenaline was still pumping from the emergency landing.

What if we hadn’t made it? I was only twenty-four years old. There was so much I still wanted to do with my life.

“Hey, are you okay?” Sandra asked.

I was back in the living room, pacing the floor to work off some of my nervous energy and spiraling. Sandra and Dale were on the couch together, having also changed their clothing. I looked enviously at Sandra’s shorts and T-shirt. I’d already asked her if she had any extra clothing, but we were only supposed to be in Costa Rica for a day, so she’d packed light.

“I’m just a little freaked out,” I admitted. “We could have died.”

“I know,” Dale agreed. “And then that tree fell on the cockpit. Did you see it? Thank God Sandra and I were out of there already.”
