“Ramon’s stable, by the way,” the guard sneered. “Thanks for asking.”

“Why would I care?” Nix shrugged.

“I’d care if someone saw me push him off the railings after stabbing him with a toothbrush.”

“A sharpened toothbrush,” Nix corrected him.

A vein in the guard’s temple ticced.

Nix smirked. “Well, no one did see either of us ‘cause that didn’t happen, so… good luck with your lockdown and strip search. Looks like you’ve got a long night ahead of you, of paperwork and headaches,” Nix said.

It gave Ash a chance to breathe.

He was shivering now. His teeth threatening to chatter.

Ash would rather die than show vulnerability in front of the guards. He was a Black Coyote after all. He would belong in a MC, he wanted to make Colt proud… Ash clenched his teeth and kept his chin up. He felt Nix’s gaze flick to him. A split second glance, but it was enough of an acknowledgement, a show of solidarity, of togetherness. It was all Ash needed. He hung on.

“Empty. Clear,” the guard shouted out, unnecessarily loud next to Ash’s face. “Next cell.” Ash didn’t flinch.

“Have a good evening,” Nix mocked.

“Get this fucking mess cleared up, are you fucking animals or what? Oh yeah, I forgot, that’s exactly what you are, mangy fucking mongrels.” The guard spat on the floor.

Ash heard the breath leave Nix’s nose. Like a snort. Like an enraged bull.

And then finally, they left.

“Fuck, I-”

“It’s okay,” Nix said, and suddenly his strong, warm hand was on Ash’s shoulder.

And Ash realized how cold he was. His skin, yes, but his blood, his bones. His heart and soul. Iced up and stiff and brittle. He felt he could snap at any moment. The shivering took hold. And he shook like he’d never shivered before. Even cold winters in Oregon hadn’t chilled his core like this.

“Here, let’s get the mattress, the crumbs brushed off… see, it’s fine…” Nix was pottering about the cell now, standing things up, dusting things down.

Ash stood and shivered.

“...I’ll just tuck this sheet over, no idea if it was yours or mine but fuck it, doesn’t matter…”

Ash’s teeth gnashed together, involuntarily now.

“Fuck, buddy, are you okay?” Nix stopped and turned to him.

Ash stood there naked. Nix, naked, too.But Nix seemed fine. Ash was not. Ash realized this wasn’t a game anymore.

“Are you ill or something?” Nix said, concern on his face.

“I… cold… just so…” Ash huffed in between shivers.

“Here,” Nix commanded. Ash went to him. “Lie down, fuck clothes, no idea where they are, under the mess somewhere… that’s it…” Nix practically tucked him in. Ash liked it. But then Nix pulled at the blanket again.

Ash wanted to protest, but then realized what was happening.

Nix folded his large body down onto Ash’s little bottom bunk. Folded himself under the covers and pushed himself flush against Ash. Big spoon style, Ash’s back was against Nix’s big, hard, warm chest. Nix’s soft groin rubbed Ash’s butt. Legs tangled again.

Ash sighed in bliss.
