“I… see…” Penny stuttered. God, she didn’t need to be intimidated in front of these women. But the bump sent her heart rate spiking.

“I’ve got a white wine spritzer, you want one?” The brunette said, nodding to a dripping-wet wine glass of champagne-colored liquid in front of her on the bar. It looked like heaven to Penny, her throat was dry and her heart was pounding.

“Yes,” she breathed out. “I… please, I’d really-”

The brunette smiled, she had a mischievous little grin, and ordered from an emo-looking barman.

“Come, have a drink, while we wait for our men. I’m April, this is Sophie,” the blonde, April, said, tapping the bar stool beside her with a smile.

Penny stepped forward, her legs feeling like lead. “I didn’t think a biker bar would stock white wine, I must admit…”

April tipped her head back and laughed. “Well I hate drinking beer, and rum and whiskey gets so same ol’, same ol’, doesn’t it?”

Penny could only nod in agreement.

“So we said we wanted nice wine. Sauvignon Blanc, this one’s a New Zealand Marlborough I think-”

Penny couldn’t believe it, her favorite. Sophie had good taste.

“Yeah, this is the Black Coyotes MC, they do things a little differently ‘round here,” Sophie added, taking a sip.

“Cheers,” April said, raising her soda water. Sophie joined by tapping her glass to April’s, and they both looked at Penny. She reached her manicured fingers out to the glistening glass in front of her, held the stem, and raised it to clink against April and Sophie’s glass, too.

“Who were you looking for? Most of them are out on a run tonight…” Sophie said.

Penny tried not to choke on her wine.

“Nix…” she said, her inflection making it sound like a question.

April blinked. “He’s out on a run.”

Penny gulped, did she dare to admit to also looking for Ash?

When they had kissed, right in front of her, the pit of Penny’s stomach had hit the floor. She’d never seen anything like it. Anything so hot, so arousing, so beautifully sexual and pure. She’d never really seen two men kissing. Well, holding hands, a peck on the cheek or a hug, what you’d see out or in films or something. But that’s not how Ash and Nix had kissed. They had kissed with reckless abandon, raw strength. It was the most masculine kiss, between two men. Both strong, big, lean men. Both good looking, both appealing. But together… Penny had to stifle a groan out loud. It had been incredible. She wanted to see them kiss again. She wanted to see them do more together. Goodness, she’d never thought that in her life, but yes, she wanted to watch Ash and Nix together.

It was a welcome distraction from thinking about sex as she had. For baby-making. For the pure and simple act of allowing Penny to have a baby. Having sex had become this thing she’d built up in her head, the pressure of trying to get pregnant, a goal she hungered for and dreamed of and yearned for with every particle of her being. But sex was also beautiful, and Nix and Ash had reminded her of that. And now she wanted to watch them make art together.

Penny took a breath. If they wanted to judge then fucking let them judge, because Penny didn’t have time for games and caring what other people thought. “And… is Ash here?” She wouldn’t waver from her goal. She would pursue it with single-minded determination as if it were a job she wanted, like how she had set up her business, like how she had got her business degree.

Neither Sophie nor April even batted an eyelid. They were not shocked. They did not judge.

April responded. “He’s also out, something went wrong, well not wrong,” April gesticulated with her hands. “Colt reassures me it's all fine but they had to divert the route and needed backup, or something… they are all fine and safe but won’t be back until much later.”

Penny let out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding this whole time. “I’m Penny, by the way, thanks-”

“I know who you are, former Mrs. Rafferty?” Sophie said.

Penny blinked at her.

“You came into my ice cream parlor, when you finally served your ex-husband the divorce papers, remember?” Sophie smiled.

It all came flooding back to Penny…

* * *

"You. Fucking. Bastard,”Penny raged. All men in the room braced themselves; Colt, Ash, Lyle, and her husband, Pete Rafferty. The owner of the ice cream parlor was there, too, looking on with a pale face from behind the counter.

"Penny-"
