“Let me just help mywifeout,” I say through gritted teeth. “And it’s all yours.”

“I regret ever saying we were married,” Lidiya hisses as I grab her elbow and yank her out of the car, now reasonably sure she’s uninjured.

“You’re going to regret a lot more before tonight is over,” I assure her. “Don’t say a fucking word until we’re upstairs.”

To her credit, she’s silent until we reach the elevator. We’re the only ones inside, and I can feel the tension go up a notch as Lidiya turns to face me, her arms wrapped around herself as if she’s still cold. “I tried, Levin,” she says in a shaky voice, and something about hearing my name spoken in that tone cuts right through me.

But I ignore it, because Ihaveto.

“You didn’t answer my question in the car. Did you enjoy it? Grisha fucking you, before?” I glare at her. “Answer me, Lidiya.”

Her cheeks are burning red, but she tips her chin up anyway, glaring at me. “Yes,” she says finally. “I did enjoy it. There’s nothing wrong with that, he was my boyfriend, and I didn’t know—so if you’re going to slut-shame me for enjoying sex, don’t bother.”

“I would never,” I assure her, as the elevator doors open and I grab her elbow again, escorting her towards my—our—room. “I promise you, I’m a huge supporter of women who love sex. I love women who love sex. I find it to be an admirable personality trait. But if you enjoyed it with Grisha before, I see no reason why—”

We’re back in the room, the door firmly shut and locked behind me, and Lidiya gapes at me, her eyes wide. “Before,” she says sharply, “I was falling in love with him. Before, I didn’t know he was married.”

“So think about that, while he does it.”

“Ah yes, the oldlie back and think of England.”Lidiya glares at me. “I know maybe you’re used to forcing women to do what you want, but I’ve enjoyed a healthy sex life up until now, and being coerced into fucking a man I don’t want isn’t—”

I round on her in an instant, and suddenly we’re back in the position we were in that first afternoon, Lidiya’s back against the door with both my hands planted firmly on either side of her, glaring down at her as I fight for control of my temper. “I’ve never forced a woman in my life,” I tell her silkily, my gaze fixed on hers. “I assure you, every woman who has ever been in my bed has been begging for it.”

“Begging for it to be over quickly, maybe.” Lidiya narrows her eyes at me. “You hardly seem like the giving type.”

“Would you like to find out?” I snap, and I see her eyes go wide just as quickly, her breath hitching in her chest. Once again, I’m rock hard in an instant, my cock throbbing madly with a deep need to rip that black dress away from her and finish what Grisha started.

I’d meant for it to be a threat, but it hadn’t come out quite like that. And now—

“I told you that phone was for emergencies.”

“And I told you I couldn’t do it. Icouldn’t,Levin.” Her voice has switched back to almost pleading, now. “He was touching me, and I felt like I was going to be sick. Like I couldn’t sit there for another minute, and it was just his hands and his mouth, just my legs and my throat, and I thought if he went further—”

The words catch in her throat, and I feel a flash of sympathy for her that I don’t dare nurture. If I do, it could mean the end of us both. It could take us down a path that will only end in pain, for both of us.

“He put my hand on him,” she whispers. “On his—” Lidiya licks her dry lips, and the sight of her tongue running over her full lower lip makes my cock throb painfully. “I couldn’t let him keep going. I know I panicked—I just can’t, Levin. I can’t sleep with him again—”

“You have to.” I feel like shit, saying it. I can see that she’s frightened and angry, and I want in that moment, both to let her go and keep her here—but not to send her back to Grisha. “You have to call him and tell him you panicked, but that you’re sorry. If he’s offended, beg for a second chance. If he’s angry, apologize. Make him believe that you want him, but that your emotions about his marriage got the better of you. Make a second date, andfix this, Lidiya.”

She looks at me, and for a long moment, neither of us move. I can see her chest rising and falling in the tight dress, hear her breathing, and I feel as if my cock is going to burst out of my jeans, I’m so hard. I want to rip that dress to shreds, touch every inch of her body, pin her against the door and fuck her until she forgets that anyone else in her entire life ever touched her.

But I have a job to do.

And so does she.

“I’m going to step away,” I say carefully. “And then you’re going to call Grisha, and apologize. Make a second date. If you do, we can go on as before, and I’ll forget this little slip-up. If not—”

Lidiya looks up at me, her blue eyes wide, and then very slowly, she shakes her head.

“I’m sorry,” she whispers. “I just can’t.”

Levin

Ijust can’t.

I close my eyes, struggling for control. I don’t know how to express to her the danger that we’re both in, not without telling her things about who I am and what I do that I don’t want her to know.

“I’ll have to take the money back, Lidiya, if you back out,” I say tersely, looking down at her. “And then I’ll be pulled off this job, and it won’t end for you there, but whoever comes next after me—they won’t offer you ten thousand dollars to do this. They’ll just force you, and I canseeyou gearing up to say that no one can force you to do anything, but I promise you Lidiya, they have ways that you can’t even imagine to force you to do things you never thought you’d agree to.”
