I could tell he wanted to say something, so I clutched the edge of the table tight and drew in a deep breath. “We made a mistake. We need to not do it again if we’re going to stay here together.”

He said nothing as he took the last bit of the cereal, then rose to his feet, walked around the table to the side where I sat, then rested on the edge of the table. “I think you’re right,” he said. “So, it’s a deal.”

I nodded, sighed, then lowered my gaze from his. His hand resting on the table drew closer to mine. His fingers brushed mine tenderly, and tingles raced through me from that point to my heart. My pulse raced, and I longed to curl my fingers around his.

He cast a furtive glance my way, and my mouth moistened with saliva. My lightheadedness came with a fluttering pain in my chest. “But we’re not gonna do that, are we?”

His question was followed by a meaningful silence. Deep down I knew I would let Tommy make love to me again, and with the way he was looking at me, it was obvious he felt the same way. My nerve endings tingled from the memory of our earlier session, and I lifted a finger to touch his while he sat close to me.

“No, we’re not,” I admitted because it was needless lying to myself.

When I met his gaze again, the moment snapped, and we reached for each other at the same time. His kiss was like a draw up for fresh air, but it also consumed me and brought fresh waves of desire inside me.

Tommy took charge of the kiss. His hand moved to my neck, and he tilted my head to one side so he could kiss the arch there. His lips on the sensitive beat of my pulse were what it took to send me into a mindless pool of pleasure that made me melt in his arms.

Tommy

Leah’ssmileplayedinmy head while I sat in a conference meeting with my employees the next day. She had a radiant smile, her lips always enticed me, and her scent made me lose my mind.

Yesterday we had a full day of laughter and romance. I found out that she was ticklish on the back of her legs. We talked about where we would go on a getaway together. We spent most of the day in bed. It was very relaxing. I gave her a back massage, and she gave me one too. I learned every curve of her body and tasted all she had to offer. The weighted feeling seated deep in my chest now was a result of my imploring joy.

Everything about Leah brought a light feeling to my insides, and it clouded my reasoning.

I want to pause time and say with her like this.

I listened to her sing in the bathroom while waiting for her to come back to bed and join me. It was the first time in a while I could enjoy spending time with anyone. She made me laugh, and that was scary.

“Tommy?” Peter Coleman asked, and the questioning tone pulled me out of my thoughts. “Do you need me to run you through the plan again? This needs to be implemented on our client’s property as soon as possible. We have all we need, and all that’s left is your approval.”

“Let me read through it and get back to you. That will be all for today.” I rose to my feet and exited the conference room with long strides. Once I got to my office, I gathered my things into my briefcase and continued out of the office.

Peter caught up with me when I got to the elevator, and he pressed the same floor button as me before he said. “You’re humming.”

The door closed and took us to the ground floor. It was a short ride, and once I got outside the building, I smiled because the hint of crispiness in the air reminded me of how Leah’s room smelled.

“I’m not humming,” I denied as I continued wailing to my car. “I’m just happy… A man can be happy right?”

“Yeah, well, I guess so, but it’s so unlike you.”

I opened my car door and paused to look at Peter. While waiting for him to strike his main point, he reached into his pocket and took out a note. “This is the report you called on the other day. The car you mentioned with those plates…I couldn’t find it anywhere. I’m still looking and calling in our contacts with the police in town and three towns from here. Hopefully, they’ll come up with something.”

“Thank you.” I took the note, unfolded it, and read. “This is an address.”

“Of the last place the car was seen before the night it tried to run you over.”

“Oh ...” I stared at the address, then tucked it into the pocket of my suit jacket and thanked him again.

Once I drove out of the parking lot, I headed to Belly Row’s to get Leah her favorite piece of cake. Cherry grinned once she saw me, and I got to the counter, then returned the smile.

“I’d like two slices of cheesecake please,” I ordered. “One with sprinkles too.”

“Ahh … How’s the young girl doing?” When I didn’t understand her question at first, she added. “I mean Leah.”

“Oh, right … she’s great.”

“She’s such a lovely girl. You know, I remember when she used to come up here with Danielle. Those two were inseparable, and I used to love having them around. When do you think Danielle will visit next? It’s weird having one around without the other.”

“They are inseparable,” I answered and smiled. “I don’t know about Danielle…She’s really busy these days.”
