As I walked the street and headed a few blocks down to the grocery store, I couldn’t shake off the prickling thought at the back of my mind.

Like I’m being watched.I got used to living in the public eye in Nashville. Each time the band and I went out for drinks or to relax, we always had a group of people come around for pictures or autographs.

Once I was asked at random to play at a couple’s engagement party because I happened to be at the same club at the time. I was used to being watched, being followed but this…This is different.

I got to the store, got all I needed to, then adjusted my hoodie again before heading back to the cottage. Tommy was in the backyard when I returned, and I walked out through the kitchen’s back door to watch him train.

He kept punching his fists in the air even though there was nothing in sight, then he struck a steady pose and picked his right leg up, did a back flip, then landed on his feet again.

Tommy was so strong and sturdy. I liked touching every inch of his body. His muscles gave my fingers an orgasm each time he was close, and ….

My phone buzzed and the tone cut into the moment. It also alerted Tommy of my presence, so he stopped what he was doing and turned to me.

I dashed into the kitchen with my phone in one ear and leaned on the first flat wall I saw to catch my balance.

“Hey, Danny, what’s up?”

“Guess what, baby girl?” Danielle squealed on the other end. I could hear the jubilation in her tone and even though she wasn’t here, I could tell she was probably pumping her fists in the air or doing a little dance with her hips.

“What?” A sudden feeling of cold shook my core, and I turned to see Tommy come into the kitchen. He stopped by the door and then gave me that insanely heated look. The thing with Tommy and me was we co-existed in this space. Even though the tension sizzling in the air never stopped, we knew how to work around ourselves. As long as he didn’t touch me, and I stayed out of his way, we are good.

We’ve been good…but Danielle coming here is a disaster. One look and she would notice the tension between her dad and me.I can’t have that … That would be a disaster.

“Where are you? Are you there?” she asked from the other end, then chuckled. “So, the deal is … Henry Truman is offering us a deal to produce our first platinum album, and then a world tour if we make our first thousand sales in two months. I think it’ll be a piece of cake, and here’s the best part…We don’t even need to be in Nashville to take this deal. We just needed to be a band wherever in the world.”

Her words bounced off me, and I felt a snagging ache in my heart when she mentioned the band. “Danny, you know that won’t work for me.’

Tommy was still hovering around in the kitchen, and I didn’t want to say anything that would make him have questions. We didn’t talk about anything, and I preferred it that way.

“Why not?” Danielle cried out on the other end. “You’re an amazing artist, Leah and I won’t let you throw all of that away.”

“But …”

“No buts, just … Meet with Henry Truman first and let’s see how that goes. I get back there in a couple of weeks, but by then I want to make sure you’re on board. Everyone else here is game so it’s just you, Leah. Don’t disappoint me.”

I sighed and closed my eyes. Giving up music, and that life in Nashville was a way to make sure I stayed sane. The fame was not good for me. I lost myself the first time…The partying, alcohol…I didn’t want to be that person. Not anymore.

“Fine, I’ll meet with Henry. Just text me when and where.”

Danielle squealed again, then she said. “All right, I’ll do that. It’s tonight though, and you need to go on a date.:

“What?” This time I nearly choked on my spit. “A date? What the heck, Danny, why would you tell him I’m seeing someone.”

“I didn’t…But the tabloids did…Didn’t you see?”

This time, my brows furrowed together, and I turned to see Tommy staring at me. “There’s a tab about me?”

“Yes, babe…You forgot you’re a star because you’re now back in Lakewood? I’ll text you the link…There’s a whole page about you and the mystery man. Don’t worry when I get there, you’ll tell me all about it.”

Danny ended the call before I got the chance to ask her what she meant. I was still reeling with her news when a text came in the next second, and I clicked on the link to read the article.

Oh boy … this is bad … This is A-level terrible.

Panic rose in my chest and displaced every other steady sensation in me. My throat closed up as I read every word in the first few lines.

Leah Maureen, vocalist for the ‘Texas’ Heart band’ has found love again.

After the internet-worthy breakup with fellow co-start Trevor Spikes, she’s been seen partying and ….
