Leah was smiling as she spoke, and even though I thought she looked beautiful in the floral pattern dress she wore I still couldn’t wrap my mind around the fact that she had rearranged my house without consulting me first.

“Get out, all of you,” I said as I clenched my fists at my side. “Now!”

The workers rushed out of the house and once the door closed behind us, I strode towards her. Leah backed away from me with a few steps till she was plastered against the wall.

“What do you think you’re doing? You can’t just come in here and change everything because you think you can.”

“I …” she stopped, licked her lips, and shook her head. “I didn’t do anything wrong. I just think this place needs more life,” she defended.

“I don’t care about what this place needs,” I yelled and instantly regretted it because she whimpered. “This is my house … mine … I don’t want flowers or a new couch or you waltzing in here and trying to change everything I’m used to.”

Her gaze melted into mine, and she tilted her chin higher in defiance. “You don’t scare me,” she challenged.

“You should be scared,” I countered. “I’m not the kind of man you joke with, Leah. When I want something, I get it. When I don’t want something … I make sure it never happens.”

I saw her throat bob as she swallowed, and my gaze landed on her lips again. That was all the unwinding I needed. I didn’t think or pause, I simply closed the gap between us and tilted her chin up so I could take her lips in for a sweet kiss.

The second my lips touched hers, I knew there was no denying this hunger. She parted for me smoothly, and my tongue delved into her mouth to explore its depths. Her tongue met mine, my right hand swooped around her waist, and I pressed her against my body.

I responded with intense pleasure, and her soft moan made me forget who she was. Leah kissed me back, her left hand bunched up on my shirt, and she raised herself on tiptoe to meet my lips.

I was spiraling with need and bursts of pleasure. Both sensations left me reeling, and I tore my lips away from hers when I heard the honk of a horn outside. I staggered away from her, trembling inside, and confused too.

What did I just do?My finger caressed her lips, and she held my gaze for a long second before she spun around and ran up the stairs. I heard the thud of the bedroom door shut, and my knees became weak.

I couldn’t explain the tingles swimming through me, or the tightening grip of hunger that clouded my judgment. It was new, thrilling, and completely spontaneous. It was unlike any feeling I had ever experienced.

Chapter Four

Leah

Mypaceremainedsteadyas I jogged down the street, took the first curve I saw, and continued on till I passed my old house. The building was probably sold off to a new owner by now, but seeing the familiar white pristine walls brought back memories of my childhood.

I stopped running so I could catch my breath. I hadn’t trained this hard in months. Not since the accident, but this morning it felt like I needed to overwork my lungs so that I wouldn’t keep feeling the sensations from last night’s kiss.

What have I done?Thinking about kissing Tommy was one thing but going through with it was another. It’s insane! How could I let him kiss me? And worse respond to his kiss?

His velvety lips had been so soft on mine. The shivers still tormented me as they did throughout the night, and I wasn’t sure I could face him this morning.

I realized I was standing on the road when a driver zooming past me blared his horn twice. I shifted to the side of the road, then dropped my hands to my knees again.

My chest remained tight and my skin sweaty, but my mind was far into the kiss. The heat of the moment, and the groan out of Tommy’s lips when his tongue entered my mouth.

I felt heat pool between my legs, and I closed my eyes, then tried to banish the thoughts.

Sighing, I shook my head, then dragged air into my lungs before I began running again. I continued in the opposite direction where I came from and got back to the cottage in five minutes. I took a second to relax on the front porch while enjoying the refreshing scent of coffee brewing, from inside.

Tommy was a coffee person. Even when Danielle and I lived in Lakewood, he would brew coffee every morning and sit on the back porch in the evening to enjoy the cool breeze or listen to us practice our guitar on the porch. Tommy had always led a quiet life. There were only a few times I could remember him hosting a party. One was Danielle’s sixteenth birthday, which also happened to be mine even though I was born a few days earlier than her.

We celebrated a twin birthday and Tommy let us handle the event. That was the only time I could remember him having guests over, and I had known Tommy and Danielle for nearly thirteen years now.

I entered the house and found Tommy in the kitchen. His back turned away from the front door, so he didn’t notice my presence at first. When he finally turned around and saw me standing at the doorway, he paused in his stride.

His gaze raked over me, and I felt the familiar sensation creep through my nerves.

“Morning,” he greeted then waved the cooking spoon in his hand in my direction. “Eggs and coffee?”

“Thanks,” I said and walked into the kitchen dully. He served me breakfast, then sat on the chair opposite mine. We ate in silence the entire time, and when we finished, I finally cleared my throat. “Tommy, about last night, I …”
