Her eyes dart over my features. “You know where they are?” There’s a tinge of excitement in her tone.

I bow my head. “I’m not sure we should go there, Thea. There are others; stronger creatures than I can handle.” My skin turns icy cold. “The Novian Queen was on her way there when I escaped.”

Thea’s response is a blow to my resolve. She squeals, a delightful noise so beautiful it’s hard to imagine denying whatever wishes she has. “Maybe not yet.” She sits upright, straddling my hips. “But after we’ve cured the others, they maywantto meet us.”

I groan as her ass rocks over my cock. My hands fly to her hips, halting her enthusiastic movements. “But Jacel has seen your face. He’ll see you as a threat, he’ll tell the Queen-”

I’m cut off by another blow of emotion. Thea’s newfound power; one she’s using to manipulate me, it seems. A rush of need travels from my head to my toes, standing my cock and hardening it until it’s as solid as a rock.

Thea slides her hand around the length, positioning it between her legs.

My hands stay perfectly still, gripping the flesh of her hips. “It’s too soon. You’ll be sore.”

“We’ll go slow,” she whispers, a smile in her voice.

Thea

“Thisisit.”Myvoice carries over the stretch of parking lot, disappearing in the wind.

We’ve traveled all day, trekking through regrowth after regrowth of old civilization. At first I thought the place I met Maggie would be a suitable home base, but Ren’s thoughts changed my mind.

Why were they out this far? Was Jacel successful in his plan to steal his mate away from the others?

It makes sense the humans hadn’t settled there, out in the open with no security to be found. They’re in acompound. A bunker, if Ren’s memories are correct.

I want to be closer to them. Not close enough that my presence alarms them, or threatens their Novian leader, but close enough that I could travel to their home within a day’s time, if need be.

And this new, larger city will work just fine.

In the end, I chose the parking lot of a shopping center to set up camp. The surrounding buildings are in a state of ruin, but their structure is sound. With a bit of work, we can transform the gray-colored concrete structures into homes, communal spaces, or even schools.

They’re also prime locations to scavenge for supplies. The people I want to save will need new clothes. They’ll want fresh items, something that reminds them they’ve regained their strength.

Ren’s neck cranes upward as he gazes at the pale blue sky. “You need ashelter,my light. What if the weather turns?”

I gesture toward a pile of aged lumber on the far side of the lot. “We’ll build a little lean-to if the need arises. I’m not worried about rain.”

Ren huffs, his pale features pinching. “I wish I knew what youwereworried about,” he grumbles.

He’s still upset that he can’t hear my thoughts even though I can hear his. It’s an unfair collaboration, I admit, but I know fate has its reasons.

Besides, now that I know the intimates of his species and how their minds work, I can show him my love in a more physical display.

When I tried it for the first time I wasn’t sure it would work. Something, perhapssomeone, whispered the idea into my head.Make him feel you.

So I felt the emotions in my heart and spread the gush of feelings into him. Worked like a charm.

Regardless, he says that doesn’t count.Hedoesn’t have the ability to feel my emotions at will. I have to offer them to him.

I can’t say I’m mad about it.

“I’m worried about trying to cure someone.” My admission is low, spoken at a near whisper. Insecurities were always something I thought of as unimportant when inside my crystal home. Now I realize the mind can easily warp into an enemy.

“Would you hate me if I said you’d be doing the dhampir a favor either way?” Ren speaks in such a nonchalant way I think he’s joking. He’s busying himself with building a tent with the lumber, collecting it all in one hefty armful.

“I beg your pardon?”
