I have my leg curled over him, and he is using his extra hands to massage my feet. Even in the demon realm, footwear for women seems to have been designed by a sadist.

I groan as his touch grows firmer, closing my eyes with satisfaction.

“Regret,” I reply. “Don’t regret how we met. It may have been inconvenient and somewhat painful, yes, but I feel like it was meant to be. After falling in love with you and finding my roots again, I feel it has all been worth it.”

Systorak sighs. It is a sigh I have grown used to, one that reluctantly accepts the plight I have endured, all for the greater good. I find it endearing and especially gentle for a demon.

I smile and lean into his chest, and he wraps his limbs around me like a cocoon. It is in his embrace that I feel most at home, most wanted, appreciated, and understood. I can be a badass in the court, but I am that delicate petal in the rain at home.

“I wish it could have happened where your hand wasn’t permanently scarred,” Systorak whispers, stroking my hair. “That’s all I’m going to say for now.”

I grin into his chest.

“You can say that forever, Sys. To me, that is saying you love me. And that is all I need to hear.”

He pulls my face from his chest, smiling warmly.

“Then it’s settled. I love you. I love you, Lana, My Queen.”

I giggle, and he kisses me with an insatiable passion that will eternally remain unmatched.
