Gabriel
It’s a new day, Gabriel.The whisper from a familiar voice wakes me up.Mama?The light hits my face, forcing me to turn away from the window and face Sasha. The light shows the rosiness of her cheeks. She clings to my arm like a girl afraid to be lost – or terrified to lose the one she holds. I want to stand and pull the curtain to keep the light off her face, but she embraces my arm more.
I raise my other hand to block the light from hitting her face. She smiles and wriggles closer to me.A baby.I may have taken her innocence, but it still shows in her face.Shit!It's three in the afternoon? I slept for more than eight hours? I look at Sasha and chuckle. I had never cuddled a woman in bed before nor spent a whole night with her on the bed.
Sasha is also the first to cling to me when I’m about to leave. Understandable. Many of the women I had sex with are either paid or wanted something from me. She was the only one who made love to me because she felt something special. Her innocence showed her attraction to me. I'm sure Sasha is still confused about whether she's in love with me, but I can tell I'm the one she wants to be with right now.
Damn it.Sasha flinches when my phone rings. She holds my arm tighter and slowly opens her eyes. “It’s okay,” I whisper before kissing her cheeks. “Just sleep. I’ll make us some dinner.”
I take the burner phone from the drawer and head out to the kitchen.Vigo.The old man must be worried about Sasha. I bought his loyalty, but he is still loyal to Sasha. Vigo betrayed my father, but he did the same to Xerxes by saving me. Now, he's betraying Xerxes for his own sake, but I suspect he'll stab both of us to save Sasha. I have to make him believe that I will spare Sasha. Or worse, that I'll love her.
Love?For a moment, I almost believed that I could do that. Sasha's innocence and sincerity can make any man fall in love with her. But I'm not just any man. I can never love a daughter of a man who killed my father, raped and drove my mother to her death, and put me into years of terror. Maybe I'll spare her by enslaving her, but she may choose to escape that with death.
“We have a problem,” Vigo declares; I frown. He always has a problem every time he calls. “The Fadors want her.”
“Want who?”
