Then I remember the tablet. The stupid tablet Rada gave me to do puzzles and play games. It doesn’t have internet access, but what it does have is a camera.

I cast aside my frustration and start rooting around in my writing desk until I find it. When I do, I position the clumsy thing on the dresser across from the foot of the bed and toy with it until the angle is right. Then, once it’s recording, I spread out on the bed, arch my back, and touch myself as if Misha is watching.

And I put on ashow.

I moan in all the right places. I coax myself to the leg-shaking edge and then back off, torturing myself and Misha alike with my orgasm.

Finally, I can’t hold back. I look into the camera as I mount the peak and pleasure pulses through me. Then the words dissolve into breathless moans.

“Just a sneak peek at what you could have had,” I whisper when I regain my sense of self, rolling against the palm of my hand.

Whatwecould’ve had.

Then I turn the video off.

MISHA

“It’s been a week. A whole fucking week.” I stare daggers at Konstantin as though he’s the one responsible. “I thought the Babai were supposed to be good.”

Konstantin frowns. “Maybe Petyr’s too good at hiding.”

“Not a chance. No one is that good. Or that stupid. We burned down his house and the bastard still refused to show face.” I shake my head. “No, my instincts were right—he’s planning something. I should have stormed in and strangled him myself.”

“And gotten yourself killed? Genius plan.”

“That would be preferable to the alternative,” I snarl.

Konstantin doesn’t beat around the bush. He knows what I mean. “You’re worried about Paige.”

Yes.Of course I am.

“Of course I’m not,” I scoff aloud. “I don’t have any reason to be. As far as Petyr is concerned, she’s dead.”

He purses his lips. “In our world, there’s always a reason to be concerned about the people in your life. Petyr could somehow know she’s still alive.”

“Are you suggesting we have a mole?” I ask.

Holding up his hands, he says, “I’m not accusing anyone of anything definitively. But you know as well as I do that nothing stays secret for long.”

Nothing about this conversation is making me feel any better. The only thing that might make me feel better is seeing Paige.

Preferably in the same outfit she wore last night.

My cock still aches from the sight of her. Pregnant and beautiful andwilling. So fucking willing.

Which is the entire problem.

“Listen, I know you’re not going to like this suggestion,” Konstantin begins, interrupting my dirty thoughts, “but we do still have a card up our sleeves.”

I catch the look on his face and don’t even have to ask. “Fuck no.”

“Come on, Misha. I’ve been tracking the man for weeks now. He has stuck to his end of the bargain.”

“He’s a rat.”

“Rats can be useful,” Konstantin argues. “They can get into places no one else can.”
