She frowns. “What was wrong with the old one?”

“Nothing. But this one has a few extra features that might come in handy if you’re ever in trouble.”

She looks dubious. “Exactly what kind of ‘features,’ Misha?”

I show her the panic button just underneath the lip of the desk. “One touch and it will trigger a silent alarm and a video feed.” I turn and point at two other corners of the room. “There’s another there, another there, and a fourth in the bathroom.”

“Don’t you think that’s a little overkill?”

“No, I don’t. “I take her hand and lead her over to the massive painting hanging on the wall. It’s a frontward-facing view of a running stallion.

“Does the stallion come to life, rip out of the canvas, and come to my defense?” she asks, deadpan.

I glare at her until she starts giggling. Then I grip the right-hand edge of the canvas and pull it forward on hidden hinges, revealing the steel door behind it.

“Oh my God,” Paige breathes. “Misha! Is that a secret passageway?”

“Unfortunately, no. The building doesn’t allow for secret passageways. But it is a panic room. There’s another button on the inside that you can press for help.”

I click the canvas shut and she stares at me with disbelief. “Honey…”

“Don’t ‘honey’ me,” I growl. “This was all necessary. You want your freedom? This is the cost. I’m not taking a chance with your life or our children’s lives.”

She gives me a soft smile and steps into the circle of my arms. She rests her head against my chest and hugs me until I hug her back.

When she pulls back, her expression is tender. “Thank you for looking after me. For looking after us.”

“It’s my job.”

“Still, I feel like you need to be thanked. Properly.”

I frown. “What do you—”

“You locked the door behind you, right?” She slides her fingers over the buttons of her red coat, popping them one by one.

I raise my eyebrows. “Are we christening your new office?”

“I don’t see why not,” she says. “We’ve christened almost every room in the house. It’s about time we found some new territory to defile.”

She pulls off the coat and lets it fall to the ground. She’s wearing a white silk blouse underneath that just manages to hide her growing stomach. She doesn’t seem as conscious of her new curves these days. Probably because she’s learned that seeing her blossom with my babies only turns me on that much more.

She steps out of her pants and reveals her pink lace lingerie underneath. She still has her heels on.

“Fucking hell,kiska,you look unbelievable.”

“Why don’t you sit, husband?” she suggests. “I don’t mind you borrowing my chair for the next hour.”

“Hour?” I ask. “Someone is feeling ambitious.”

“If I wasn’t ambitious, I wouldn’t be here at all,” she says, placing her hands on my chest and pushing me down into her swivel chair.

She runs her hands over my hair and down the back of my neck. I stare up at her in awe, mesmerized by this creature. It still strikes me as a miracle that we ever crossed paths. That one sip of champagne soldered our lives together forever.

Then she straddles me, pushing her nearly naked breasts into my face, and all thoughts like that vanish on the spot.

She rocks her hips back, torturing me with the friction, and presses her lips to mine. She kisses me long and deep and slow.

“I’ve never been comfortable in lingerie,” she admits when we come up for air. “Not until I met you.” She nips and licks down my neck. “Now, it’s all I want to wear.”
