Sorry for what, though? For falling onto Timofey’s dick and forgetting about the task at hand?

“You know I love you, Piper. I would hate it if anything bad happened to you.”

“Nothing bad is going to happen to me.” I can’t say that with any certainty, but I try to sound as sincere as I can.

“You don’t know that. This thing you’re going to tonight… Do you know what it is?”

“It’s just a party.”

“What kind of party?” she asks. “Do you know who will be there?”

Timofey gave me the rundown last night, right after he gave my body a rundown in his shower.

“It’s going to be the bride and groom and their families,” he explained. “Then some shared friends, some Bratva and some civilian.”

“A mix of people,” I tell Noelle. “It’s going to be a stuffy, boring dinner. Nothing wild.”

“Piper.” Noelle’s voice breaks and it sounds like she is about to cry. “Get out of there.”

“I will. Eventually. But tonight, I—”

“Just grab Benjamin and get out of there,” she continues. “You have no idea who this guy is. Every day you spend with him is another day where you could get hurt. Just cut your losses and leave while he’s distracted with the party.”

Not so long ago, I would have thought of that idea myself. While Timofey was going over party planning details and welcoming guests, I would have been planning my great escape. The fact that running away hasn’t even crossed my mind all week feels like a bucket of ice water over my head.

Hehassucked me in. Noelle is right.

“I can’t leave,” I whimper to her. “He notices everything. He won’t let me go.”

“Try, Piper. Please promise me you’ll try.”

I hate lying to my friends, but I hate worrying them even more. “I’ll try.”

My bedroom door creaks open, and I turn just as Timofey steps inside. He’s decked out in a tux with green detailing that matches my dress, and when I see the familiar shape of him, my stomach flips.

His blue eyes take me in from head to toe and swallow me whole. I’m drawn to his gaze like a minnow trapped in a whirlpool, helpless to escape. Without consciously choosing to, I walk towards him.

“… know I just want what’s best for you,” Noelle is saying on the phone. “I love you.”

With my eyes on Timofey, I respond, “I love you, too.”

“Should I be worried?” Timofey asks the moment I hang up with Noelle.

My heart thunders against my chest. How much did he overhear?

“Worried about what?” My voice comes out a bit too high and unnatural.

He closes my door and moves closer, his gaze slipping up and down my body on an endless loop. “That you’re wearing this dress and telling someone else you love them. I’m not an insecure man, but when you look like this…” He shakes his head. “It’s bringing out my possessive side.”

“Possessive is the only side you have,” I tease.

“No.” He bites his lower lip. It’s the single sexiest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. “That was me wanting you close. Wanting you here with me for my own devious purposes. But this…thisis me wanting to kick every single one of the forty guests waiting for me downstairs out of my house so I can fuck you until your throat is sore from screaming my name.”

His words are dirty, and I can barely catch my breath with how much I want them to come true. Then Timofey grips my waist, and I might as well be a puddle at his feet. His hands are the only thing holding me upright.
