With nothing left to say, I walk into the master bedroom.

More alone than ever.

PIPER

Timofey is on top of me, his weight on his hands on either side of my head. I turn and press a kiss to the velvet skin of his wrist.

“Tell me a secret.”

He settles his hips over mine. I feel the hard length of his erection. “If we’re playing truth or dare, I’d rather take a dare.”

I want to know everything about him. His thoughts, his body, his dreams. I want it all.

“I dare you to tell me a secret.” I flick my tongue over the bone of his wrist. “Then fuck me until I forget it.”

His blue eyes glimmer with mischief. In one move, he hooks his arm around my waist and rolls sideways. Suddenly, I’m on top of his bare chest, straddling his waist. Warm and naked.

He cups his hands over my breasts and thinks for a moment. His lips are pursed, his chin dimpled. He looks adorable.

“Secret. Secret… Hmm… Oh, I got one.” He smiles up at me.

Then his smile twists into the most vicious sneer I’ve ever seen. “I wish you were dead.”

The words douse me like ice water. I frown and pull back, but Timofey grabs my wrists. “Where are you going?”

“What are you—What did you just say?” The gauzy warmth of the room from a minute ago is fading. The light is sharp now, casting half of his face in shadow. That sneer grows worse.

“I wish you were dead.” The words have a heavy weight of their own. Drenched in fear and unvoiced violence.

He grabs my hips and drags my aching core over his length. My mind is stuck on what he said, but my body is eager to forget everything so long as he keeps touching me like this. I can’t swallow my moan.

“Now,” he murmurs, “let me fuck you until you forget.”

His hands and fingers are in all the right places all at once, and I can’t seem to pull away like I know I should. I arch my back and roll into his touch until I’m dripping wet and quivering with need.

I should run.

I should come.

I should flee.

I should surrender.

Just as that sweet release starts to crest, a baby cries out.

I freeze. “Did you hear that?”

“Shut the fuck up, Piper,” Timofey hisses. His teeth are sharpening to fangs with every passing second. “You can’t save him in time. You can’t save any of them.”

More screams join in with Benjamin’s cries. Ashley. Gram.

Then Timofey is gone.

And I’m falling.
