I’m debating whether or not I should call Colt and tell him he’s missing, but I don’t want him to freak out and have him worry over nothing if Jordan just decided to go see a movie or something stupid. He is still a kid, after all.

His car is still parked in the lot, and none of the other cars are missing, but you can walk to almost everywhere in town because it’s that small. Or he could’ve got a ride. I know he’s been talking to a few local girls. Would he up and leave in the middle of the day for pussy? It’s possible. I would at his age.

Around seven that night, my brothers and Hugo start strolling through the garage, heading to the meeting room in the back while I hide out in the storage room with my two phones. I can’t go into the meeting and act like everything is fine when it’s not. I’m an awful liar. At the same time, I don’t want to worry them all with Jordan’s disappearance in case it’s temporary.

Holy shit. What if he was abducted by aliens?

I really am losing my mind with worry.

When my cell phone finally starts to ring for once, I toss the shop one down on a box of air filters to answer it, hoping to see the kid’s name on the screen. Since it’s a blocked number, I ignore it, letting it go to voicemail while I try to call Jordan’s phone yet again.

Fucking finally, he picks up.

Before I can heave a sigh of relief, a voice that isn’t Jordan’s says, “Missing something?”

“Who the hell is this?” I demand.

“I’ll give you a hint – I’m probably the only man to have seen you recently with your pants around your ankles.”

“Thane! What the fuck are you doing with Jordan’s phone?”

“Well, I tried to call you, but you wouldn’t answer.”

“The unknown caller is you?”

“Yeah. But enough joking around. I’m not calling for pleasure. This is business.”

“Business? What business?”

“I have a message for you to give your brothers and president. The Devil Hounds have your prospect. If the Savage Kings want him back, they’ll have to come and negotiate with Isaac Perry at our clubhouse.”

It takes even longer than usual for those words to sink into my skull. When they do, I take a deep breath and warn him, “If you lay a fucking finger on him…”

“Too late.”

“What?” I exclaim.

“I can’t tell if you’re worried or jealous.”

“This isn’t funny, asshole! If you hurt him, the Kings will fucking kill you all!”

“Then you better hurry,” he says before the prick hangs up on me.

In the silence, the weight of the situation bears down on me, making my chest ache, my breathing labored.

This shit is serious. Deadly serious. I can’t believe Thane would do something like this, but he did. It’s not like I know more than his name.

Now, I have no choice but to go tell my brothers. At least they’re all here so I can get it over with at the same time.

I already know that Colt is going to fucking lose it.

Bursting through the meeting room door, I struggle to speak and breathe through the panic when I see all their faces.

“There’s…problem. Have to…go!”

“What’s wrong?” Remy asks as everyone, including him, gets to their feet. “Another bomb?”

I shake my head. “No. Jordan.”
