“Then spit it out already, old man,” Remy huffs while crossing his arms over his chest.

“Your prospect stays here until I get my daughter back.”

The Kings all turn to Barrett, silently asking him if he has her holed up somewhere. He doesn’t.

“I don’t know where the fuck Lyla is!” he exclaims.

Isaac points his finger at him. “It’s your fault she left. Now you’re going to convince her to come home. The prospect stays until that happens, and the Rockland chapter folds.”

“You can’t be serious!” the blond one I’m guessing is Jordan’s soon-to-be daddy shouts.

Isaac gives me and Everett a nod of his head, so we go stand in front of Jordan’s chair at the same time a few more Devil Hounds show up to block the doorway, including Hank’s volatile ass.

“It’s fine. I’m fine. Don’t do anything crazy, man,” Jordan stands up and says before I push on his shoulders.

“Sit your ass down, pussy,” I tell him, mostly just to see if I can get a reaction out of RJ. He’s not said a single word.

When RJ and Jordan’s stepdaddy both take a step forward with their fists clenched by their sides, Remy throws his arms out in front of their chest to stop them. “Don’t,” he warns them. To Isaac, Remy says, “Look, we’re not folding our club, and what happens between you and your daughter isn’t on us. What if she never comes home?”

“If she doesn’t, then this boy here won’t ever come home,” Isaac says, jerking his chin toward Jordan.

“Look,” Barrett starts. “I honestly don’t even know where Lyla is staying, okay? We haven’t talked since the other day. She may not answer my calls or texts.”

Isaac says to him, “Oh, I know where she’s at. I’ll even give you the address.” He scribbles it down on a piece of paper, then reaches across the desk to hand it to me to take to Barrett.

“If you know where she’s at, then why don’t you just go drag her ass back home!” Jordan’s stepdaddy yells at him.

“Because he doesn’t want to be the bad guy,” Barrett explains, folding the piece of paper and slipping it into his pocket. “She’s already pissed at him for telling her she couldn’t see me.”

“Our club can’t be punished for your family’s problems,” Remy remarks.

“Everett, Thane, show these boys out, will ya?” Isaac says, dismissing us.

“Fuck it. Let’s go,” Remy mutters. “Now, Colt. The kid will be fine because if he’s not, every one of these assholes are dead.”

Hugo grabs the stepdaddy’s shoulder – Colt, apparently – to urge him toward the door. “We’ll get this sorted out, kid,” he tells Jordan. “Hang in there, okay?”

“Okay, just don’t tell my mom!” he calls back, making Colt grumble out a curse.

RJ walks out with the group without giving me a second glance, which I fucking hate.

I’m pretty sure that the ridiculously small chance I had with him just went out the window.

CHAPTERTEN

RJ

How could Thane just stand there like he didn’t have a care in the world after kidnapping an innocent kid?

I barely know the guy, but for some reason, this feels like a huge betrayal.

Apparently, I’m not the only one outraged.

As soon as we’re in the parking lot outside the Devil Hounds clubhouse, Colt loses it. “We can’t just leave him here!”

“So, you want to go back inside and have a shootout where we’re outgunned ten to one?” Remy asks him. “The kid would be the first one they pull the trigger on.”

“How the hell am I supposed to just leave and go tell Josie that her son’s been kidnapped by some psycho bikers?” he asks. “I promised her the club would watch his back, keep him safe.”
