Antonio shrugged. “I don’t know. I was just scared.”

“Maybe you shouldn’t be sleeping with other people’s wives,” Faith suggested.

Antonio jutted his chin out in what Faith was sure he thought was a tough expression. “It’s not a crime to sleep with other people’s wives,” he said.

“It is a crime to murder them,” Michael pointed out.

Antonio blinked. His eyes widened as he realized the reason he was detained. “What?” he said. “I didn’t kill Katherine!”

“How did you know we were talking about Katherine?” Faith asked.

He blinked and looked between the two of them. “Well, that’s who you’re talking about, right?”

Faith took a breath. “Yes, Mr. Delgado. How didyouknow we were referring to Mrs. Navarro?”

“Well, because she’s dead.”

Michael flipped the chair in front of the table and sat backwards on it, leaning over the back with his elbows on the table. He met Antonio’s eyes and said almost kindly, “Tony, I’m getting really pissed off right now. I don’t know if this is an act or if you really are phenomenally stupid, but whatever it is, I need you to start answering our questions right now before we drop you in a cell with some six-foot-eight, three-hundred-pound biker and tell him you like it rough.”

“I didn’t kill her!” he cried. “Honest! Look, I was f—I was sleeping with her, but I’m sleeping with a lot of women.” He smiled slightly, and Faith felt her stomach turn. The jerk was actuallyproudof himself. “A lot of the women I train, well, they’re frustrated, you know? Their husbands don’t satisfy them anymore. They come to me for help, and I help them.”

“What a peach you are,” Michael said.

“But I don’t kill them!” he said. “Think about it. Why would I kill someone I’m having sex with?”

He looked expectantly at the two agents, as though that made everything clear.

“Can you tell me where you were three nights ago? Actually, start from the morning. I want to hear everything about your entire day. Tell me a story.”

Antonio sniffled. “I woke up, brushed my teeth, showered, went to work. I worked at the gym for a few hours then went to Hannah’s house for a training session.”

“Who’s Hannah?” Faith asked.

“Mrs. Carey, the woman whose door you just kicked down.”

“Got it. So, you …trainedMrs. Carey, and then?”

“Then I went home. I got there around seven-thirty.”

“And I’m sure you never left.”

“I didn’t!” he said. “Honest! You can … wait! I have cameras!”

“Cameras?”

“Security cameras! You can check the cameras!”

He leaned back and slapped the table, grinning broadly as though he’d just struck gold. “You can check the cameras,” he repeated. “I parked in my driveway at seven-thirty and stayed there all night. I didn’t leave until eight the next morning. I’ll give you the tapes.”

“We’ll look them over,” Faith said. “Tell me about Amanda Montgomery.”

“Who?”

Michael sighed. “Remember what I said about the stupid act, Tony?”

Antonio leaned forward, his anger and humiliation overriding his fear. “I. Don’t. Know. Amanda!” he shouted. “Do you mean Mandy?”

“Sure,” Faith said, “tell us about Mandy.”
