“For fuck’s sake,” Quinn grumbles as I let out a laugh. Because honestly, why the hell is Robert here? Wasn’t he supposed to be in the UP? Did he return earlier than he planned? It’s like he’s following us or something, or perhaps the gods are conspiring against us.
“Grey?” Robert says, making his way up the front steps of the porch, Tattletale settled on his shoulder, eyeing us. “What are you doing here?”
“Could ask you the same thing?” Quinn grumbles next to me, sitting up straighter in the swing, his eyebrows pulled down in annoyance. He looks like he’s ready to stand up and slap someone. Hopefully not the parrot. Don’t want him in jail for animal cruelty.
“Just here on a getaway with Quinn, my boyfriend,” I say, and Quinn’s head swivels to mine. He blinks at me and blinks some more, obviously confused. Maybe I shouldn’t have blurted that out. Maybe he doesn’t want to be my boyfriend. Shit. Should have considered that. I always do this shit. I just can’t help myself.
Robert frowns and Quinn turns to face him once more.
“Yeah, well, I knew you were boyfriends…” Robert says a little too snottily, and Quinn interrupts him.
“Why are you here, Robert?” he asks.
Tattletale shifts on Robert’s shoulder and fluffs his tail out, probably taking a shit on that nice shirt of his.
“My aunt owns this B&B. I was traveling back and thought Tattletale could use a playdate. I’m not following you two. Don’t worry.”
I bite down hard on the inside of my cheek to keep myself from laughing. Because of course he is going to bring his bird for a playdate. I mean, I have to hand it to him, at least he’s a devoted bird-dad.
Quinn purses his lips and then nods, obviously done with the chit-chat.
“Well, we won’t keep you. Off you go. Tattletale is in need of some socialization…and so are you,” Quinn quips lowly.
Robert frowns, obviously having heard Quinn, and the incredible need to laugh bubbles out of me.
I try to hold it in, I really do, but it just escapes, bursting out of me on a low wheeze.
“Fuck. Are you okay?” Quinn asks as I gasp for breath, my eyes tearing up from how ridiculous this all is. Goddamn Robert and his bird. This fucking week has been misery and now I’ve lost my mind; I’m completely unhinged. It cannot get any weirder.
I manage to squeak out ayesbefore bending over and laughing hysterically, my hands clenched on my stomach, my lungs searching for air. Robert hovers for a while, probably wondering if I’ve lost my mind, and then meanders inside, the chirps and squawks of the birds all coming together in a cacophony of sound, making me laugh even harder.
God, this is fucking crazy! How is this my life?
Minutes later, I finally calm down, swiping at my eyes and letting out a shuddering breath.
“Fuck, that felt good,” I say, and Quinn smirks at me, his eyes twinkling.
“Well, I’m glad this whole getaway is providing you with some entertainment. Fucking Robert,” he murmurs. “He did have shit on his shirt, by the way. Seriously detracts from those legs of his.”
I pull Quinn in for a kiss, slipping my tongue into his mouth and groaning at the taste of him.
“I don’t see anyone but you,” I say once our lips are pried apart.
Quinn lets out a breath, his hands moving into my hair, clutching on to it.
“Love that it’s longer now,” he says, and I watch as his pupils dilate. “Wanna grab on to it while I fuck you. Fuck it. Let’s do it now. I can’t wait.”
He suddenly stands up and pulls me up the stairs to our room where we lock the door, and I let him strip me out of my clothes.
I try like hell to keep it down, to muffle my cries, but I don’t quite manage. I’m loud, brought to near tears, but Quinn doesn’t mind. He says we should let Robert hear, let him know what Quinn can reduce me to. The birds seem to chirp louder with each of my moans.
And when we’ve collapsed on the bed—his hand entwined with mine, my cheek on his chest—he lets out a slow breath.
“Boyfriends, huh? We official now, Grey?” he asks, and I smile.
“Yeah, Quinn. We are.”
