“You gonna talk to your dad?” I ask, because this is what matters the most to me. I want Grey to be happy.

Josh shrugs and Hailey huffs. “Yeah, he is. Josh texted him right when we got here. We’re going to stop by his place on the way home. I think things need to be said and worked out between them.”

Joshua looks like he’d rather have all his teeth pulled, but I’m so damn glad that Hailey is making him do this. Grey needs some closure. It’s been eating at him. I can see it in the way he drifts off in thought, in the way he worries his bottom lip until it’s raw and swollen.

“Seems my mom has been keeping some stuff from me,” he mutters, and I feel my chest tighten. “You were right.”

I nod my head because I want to shout thatfuck yeah I was,but manage to contain it.

“You with him?” Joshua asks, and I nod my head. “Like are you two together?”

“Yeah, we’re together.”

He eyes me and then runs a hand through his hair. “You happy?”

“Yeah. We are.”

He purses his lips and sighs loudly. “It’s fucking weird. Really fucking weird, Quinn.”

“I’ve been into him for ages,” I explain, and Joshua’s gaze slashes to mine.

“Yeah, and that’s weird too.”

“Can’t help that your dad is a babe,” I say with a smile, and Joshua slaps a hand over his face, a nervous laugh bubbling out of him.

“God, stop it, Quinn. Jesus. Like, slowly transition me into this, alright? Because it’s weird as fuck and I’m trying to get my bearings. But…I realize you did nothing wrong. And Hailey helped me see that as long as you’re not harming anyone, that it’s fine… I just… I don’t want to lose you…you know? If things go sideways with you and my dad.”

“I mean, I’m pretty serious about him. I plan on sticking around forever. I mean, you’ll be my best man at the wedding.”

“Jesus, you’re thinking about getting married? You’re nineteen.”

“Yeah, well, when you know, you know.”

Joshua eyes me in disbelief and runs a hand through his hair, mussing it even more. “We good? I don’t want to leave for college with things still weird between us.”

“Yeah, we’re good,” I say and then add, “And please give your dad a chance. He…he loves you so much.”

“Yeah, I realize that,” he murmurs and then nods to Hailey. “We are gonna go meet him now. You gonna be there?”

“Can I be?” I ask, and Joshua nods.

“I mean, yeah, you probably should be. You’re like boyfriends now, right?”

I bob my head. “Yeah.”

“Then you should be.”

ChapterTwenty-Six

Grey

Iam sweating bullets and already had to change my shirt—twice—because my son is coming over to talk to me and I feel faint.

Where is Quinn? Why hasn’t he answered my panicked texts?

I gulp down some water and then gulp down some more, choking loudly when the front door opens and my son steps through.

With Quinn.
