“Grey, do you want to go to the Soo with Robert? Alone? That’s what I’m asking.”

“Hell no,” I grumble. “Don’t fucking leave me with him. He’ll talk my ear off. My head can’t handle it. And that bird is fucking eerie.”

Quinn’s lips twitch, his eyes twinkling. “Fine, I won’t. I’ll save you ononecondition.”

I meet his steely gaze.

“You don’t treat me like a kid. I’m your equal. And…” He swallows, his cheeks flushing darker. “We’re together.”

My lips part and I just gape at him. Is he serious? Together?

“What does that mean?”

“It means I’m your boyfriend whenever Robert is around,” he says, and I nearly swallow my tongue. “It’s the only way that dude will lay off,” he adds.

“I don’t know if that’s needed…”

“I saw the way he looked at you. He was drooling. So yeah, it is. Unless you want him…”

I shake my head and blurt, “No.” No, that ship sailed a long time ago.

“Fine, then those are my terms. Do we have a deal?”

He shifts on his feet, his hands clasping his coffee mug tightly, waiting for my answer.

I swallow, my lips meeting once more. Deep breath in and then out. This is a bad, bad thing to agree to, but I do it anyways. Bad decisions and all that…

“Fine.”

Quinn grins at me. “I can’t fucking wait.”

ChapterSix

Quinn

Ican’t stop watching Robert watch Grey. After Robert lumbered back to his camper to get changed, he reappeared looking less shat on and pretty damn hot. It’s making me start to feel unreasonably jealous. And I can’t let it show. Not when Grey has promised to look at me like an adult.

And to make matters worse, Grey isn’t keeping him at arm’s length like he should, despite looking somewhat uncomfortable that Robert keeps putting his hands on him. Right now, Robert is leaning into him, that bird on his shoulder far too close for comfort. How does Robert not know that Grey hates birds? Not that I’m surprised. Robert seems like the kind of man who chats your ear off endlessly and never lets you get a word in edgewise. God, what was sex like with him? He probably filibustered the entire time. He should work for Congress.

Robert reaches out and touches Grey’s cheek, and the pencil in my hand is gripped so tightly, I think I may snap it in half.

I should go over there and insert myself, but I don’t want to come across as too needy and jealous.

Even though that’s exactly what I am. A jealous fucker. Jealous of Robert and those big thick arms and that parrot that is eyeballing Grey like he’s a nut he wants to crack.

Suddenly the parrot speaks, something I can’t make out, and Grey jumps a little.

Robert smiles widely and reaches out, steadying him with those big hands, his touch lingering a little too long if you ask me.

I’ve watched other men touch Grey far too often. I mean, not super often, but even once was enough. I’ve seen how Grey’s cheeks flush crimson, how he pulls his lips between his teeth nervously, how he shifts closer, almost close enough that their cocks brushed.

I lurked like a creeper in the doorway of his house, watching him. I’m surprised Joshua never caught me loitering. I had no shame then, and I have no shame now. The only issue is now Grey doesn’t seem to be enjoying these little touches Robert is bestowing on him.

Or maybe he is.

Fuck, I can’t get a good read on him. When he finally detaches and makes his way back toward me, he is staring at me with a look I can’t decipher.I scramble up from my chair, my sketchbook and pencil clutched in my hands as he ambles into the trailer.

The door closes behind him and he lets out a shaky breath.
