“Our ride is here. You won’t have to drive this one,” I said instead. He looked skeptical, but I opened the door before he could question me more. A packet lay on the seat with my name on it, so I picked it up and opened it.

“Who am I this time?” I pulled out the nurse’s badge, blinking as I giggled. “There’s no way Man picked that name. Gah, I love you, Darcy, you silly girl.”

“What is it?” Phoenix asked, sliding in next to me.

“My name for this mission.” I turned it toward him, wondering if he’d get it.

“Molly Cule.” His eyes lifted, a grin spreading across his face. “As in from theMagic School Bus?”

I nodded. “Yep, and because I’m a science nerd.”

“What are you two laughing at?” Otto asked, getting in the other door and sandwiching me in. Rueben and Porter got into the seat in front of us, turning to look back at his question.

“My alias for this mission is Molly Cule.” I giggled again, finding it too hilarious.

“I love hearing you laugh,” Otto whispered, his breath warm against my face. He nuzzled his nose along my neck, the soft touch sending goosebumps all over me. I shuddered, my eyes closing as I took in a deep breath.

“Shit, she’s so responsive,” someone said. I was too focused on how Otto made my body feel with the barest touch. He placed a small kiss on my cheek before he pulled back, giving me time to calm down.

“This is going to be fun,” Porter said, my eyes opening and meeting his. The green shimmered, and his pupils grew as he stared at me. I sucked in a breath at the desire clearly written all over his face.

The SUV started forward, so he turned, breaking the connection and letting my heart return to my chest. I didn’t know everything he meant, but I had a feeling I would agree with him. Discovering all these new sensations would be a lot of fun. For the first time in my life, I felt excited about that. Before, it had been perfunctory. A way for me to understand and check off that I’d done it and never needed to again.

With these guys, there weren’t enough checkboxes in the world to ever be done with them. My mind devoured every new sensation, absorbing it so I could chase more of that feeling. The need to research and learn as much as I could itched under my skin, my brain’s way of handling new information.

“You okay?” Phoenix asked, his hand squeezing my thigh.

“Mmhmm,” I hummed, my lips pressed together. Taking a deep breath, I focused on the stitching of the seat before me and not my body’s reaction to their very presence. After ten big gulps, I felt more centered, my heart no longer galloping.

The car slowed, and I leaned over Phoenix’s chest to see out the window. His arm dropped around my back, his thumb landing on the small space of skin between my shirt and skirt. All the work I’d done earlier went out the window, my body practically purring at his touch.

The house had a curved driveway that wrapped around the front, and the driver stopped at the front door. The gray wood shimmered under the moon, the black shutters standing out against the soft color. It had a classic Craftsman style to it, with angled roofs over the windows and doors. Flowers grew in beds and pots all along the front. It was welcoming and precisely like the type of house I’d want if I lived in this town.

“It’s perfect,” I said, turning to Phoenix, forgetting how close I was to him. His nose bumped mine, his eyes drifting down to my lips.

For a second, everything else disappeared as I waited for him to decide if he would kiss me. The slamming of the door jolted me, and I pulled back. Phoenix grabbed my arms and held me in place. His eyes closed as he moved closer, his lips touching mine softly. He pulled back before I could investigate them more.

“Stay with Porter and me tonight?” he whispered.

My hand drew up to my lips as I nodded, the ghost of his kiss lingering. His eyes sparkled at my response, letting me go so I could unbuckle and climb out of the car. Rueben already had my bag, so I took Porter’s hand and walked into the house, waving bye to the driver as the SUV pulled away.

Rueben opened the door, but the guys kept me back. I huffed, realizing they didn’t think it was safe. I was mildly insulted that they kept forgetting I was a badass killer. But the overprotectiveness and caring for me felt nice, so I’d let it go for now.

My quiet giant returned, nodding that we could enter. Yawning, I blinked my eyes in an attempt to keep them open. It had been a long night, and I was ready for bed despite the fact the sun would rise soon. Oh well, I didn’t have to be anywhere until tomorrow evening.

I walked through the house but didn’t take in any of the information, my mind shutting down with each step closer to a bed.

“We’ll take this one,” Porter said to the others. I dropped Phoenix’s hand and walked over to Otto, startling him when I pulled his shirt so he’d lower. He was the shortest of the guys but was still a few heads taller than me. Deciding to be brave, I kissed him on the lips, just like Phoenix had earlier. It felt right and important to make the same effort.

I dropped his shirt and moved to Rueben. I motioned for him to bend down; he smirked, squatting to my height. I’d be offended, but he was easily six-foot-four, and I barely topped five feet. I grabbed his beard, my fingers scratching through it before kissing him.

“Goodnight,” I yawned, waving over my shoulder as I stumbled toward the door Porter stood frozen at. I didn’t know why and was too exhausted to figure it out.

Grabbing my bag, I undressed in the attached bathroom, tossing my clothes into the dirty side. I’d need to do laundry soon. Brushing my teeth, I leaned against the counter, barely able to stay standing. Spitting when I was finished, I grabbed an old t-shirt and pulled it on, remembering I couldn’t sleep naked if I was sharing a bed.

Shuffling my feet, I climbed into the middle of the bed and pulled the covers over my head. Relaxed and warm, I drifted to sleep, hoping neither of the twins snored. I’d been known to stab someone for that nonsense.
