Anna squealed, and Gino looked shocked, but Lorenzo and I looked at each other and burst out laughing.
“Come here,” Lorenzo said and grabbed me. He kissed me, spun me around and dipped me low to the ground before he set me back on weak knees.
Thunder crackled again, and we turned and ran through the park toward shelter.
When we arrived at the hotel, Ava was there with the dress.
“What happened to you?” she asked, shocked. “You’re drenched!”
I laughed. “It started raining.”
“That’s a bad sign,” Ava said, shaking her head.
“Oh, no, it’s not,” I said and took a towel, patting my face dry. “It’s just how it was meant to be.”
Ava and Anna glanced at each other, but I didn’t care what they thought. I was happy—happier than I’d ever been.
When I was dressed, my hair was still wet. I wore a beautiful dress frosted with Swarovski crystals and high heels that had always been my dream.
Lorenzo came to me, wearing a tux. His wet hair had been slicked back, and he looked more handsome than ever.
“Look at you,” I said, looking him up and down. “That suit would look good on my bedroom floor.”
He laughed. “Look atyou.” He kissed me. “Ready?”
I nodded, and the doors opened. The DJ announced us.
“For the first time ever, I present to you, Mr. and Mrs. Carelli!”
The music started, and Lorenzo took my hand.
“One step at a time,” I said.
