“Alright, that’s the last of it,” Sienna says as she brings a pot to the table. “Let’s eat!”

We dig in, Ezra mostly playing with his food but eating a few bites here and there.

“How was your day?” I ask, looking over at Sienna.

She swallows and beams. “Good,” she tells me. “Miothro has given me more control over the store inventory lately! It’s been so amazing working for him. I can’t believe what a good employer he is.”

I’m happy for her, even though I miss having her around the theater. I’m mostly just grateful to be part of her life again though. “That’s fantastic!” I tell her. “You deserve to get this promotion. You’ve always been such a hard worker. You’re really incredible and you deserve every good thing that happens to you.”

Sienna ducks her head and pink stains her cheeks as she takes a bite, avoiding my gaze. “There are a few new musicians starting out next week,” I tell her, changing the topic. “One of them is really talented on stage but incredibly clumsy off-stage. He can’t manage to walk two feet without tripping over nothing,” I say, chuckling.

“Oh yeah?”

“It’s remarkable how often he accidentally sits on his instruments. Truly, a feat for the ages.” We’re both chuckling now.

“That bad?” Sienna asks.

“Worse,” I tell her. “In his audition for Benshobe, he managed to almost knock the grand jinrayaha over.”

“Goodness!” she exclaims. “Hopefully his music makes up for his lack of coordination!”

“Let’s hope,” I agree, laughing.

We continue to chat, Sienna telling me about some of the more ridiculous customers that came to her shop, including one dark elf woman who was convinced herunborn childwas destined to be a musical genius.

There’s a lightness inside me that I haven’t felt since the day she left. I don’t know why she left but I’m determined to do everything in my power to keep her around. No matter what it takes, I want her to know that I’m not going anywhere again. And that she doesn’t have anything to fear.

I intend to be here for both her and our son. Ezra is the most important person in the world to me now, only second to Sienna. No matter what she thinks, I’m proud to have a child with her.

There’s no one else I’d rather have had a child with, frankly. I never thought I wouldhavea child, always certain that I would be a musician first and foremost. So having Ezra has woken me to the idea of there being more out there besides just music.

“And so she kept trying to hold it next to her belly, as though the child could somehow give her a sign that this or that was the right one!” Sienna finishes. I laugh, throwing my head back as tears stream down my cheeks.

“You tell the best stories,” I tell her as I brush away the tears. “I can’t believe that woman! What is her family name? I need to know, just in case she shows up at the club trying to get a gig for the child!”

Ezra has no idea why we’re laughing but he laughs with us, clapping his hands and bouncing excitedly in his high-chair.

“That’s right,” Sienna says, leaning over to wipe some cryot off his face. “Such a silly lady!”

“Very silly,” I agree, leaning down to kiss Ezra on the head. “Such a silly, silly lady!”

Ezra loves the attention and his green eyes sparkle as he gives us a toothy grin. “Sil!” he agrees. “Sil lay!”

We finish dinner and Sienna lifts Ezra from his high-chair while I start clearing the table. She takes him to clean up in the bathroom and I wash the dishes in the sink, staring out the window at the street below as people scurry here and there. It’s getting late so most people are probably headed home.

Home to their loved ones, I’m sure. But I’m already with the people I care about. I can’t believe how lucky I am—truly.

“Okay, he’salllllcleaned up!” Sienna says, carrying Ezra back into the kitchen. He runs over to the wooden blocks and begins to play with them while Sienna wipes down the table and I put the now clean dishes away.

“Alright,” I say as soon as I’m done. “Time for a concert, right bud?” I ask, picking up my son. “We want to impress Mommy. Musicians get all the ladies, after all,” I tease. Sienna giggles and pushes me lightly.

“Don’t tell my eighteen month old son that!”

“What, it’s true,” I shrug. “It brought us together.”

Sienna goes pink and mutters something under her breath before going to sit on the couch. “Okay, play for me then, oh great musical geniuses!”

I sit Ezra down with his wooden besson, pulling out my corno. “Okay, just like we practiced, Ez!” I encourage. “Let’s do it!”
