It’s at that moment I realize that this is why I haven’t told him what happened. I’m scared he’ll know who it is and won’t care, or that he won’t know who it is but he’ll see me as damaged goods and go back to hating me. I’m being honest when I say that if I have to go through his bullying again, I really won’t survive. I barely made it out alive the last time.

“Hey, it’ll be alright. You have the boys and I now. We’ll respect your wishes because it’s up to you and what you want to do. Knox ‘Dickhead’ Riverside will never hear a word of it from us,” she says and her words brings out a laugh from me.

“He really is a dickhead, isn’t he?” I ask, still grinning.

“Sure is.”

“Why do I have feelings for him, though? Why couldn’t I have been attracted to someone else? Why did I have to love the boy who made my life a living hell?” I question with a sigh.

“Sometimes you just can’t help who you fall in love with,” she says with a sigh. From the sound of her words, I guess we both know something about loving the wrong person.

“Let’s get drunk and forget about all this heavy shit,” I suggest and get a big smile in return.

“Now we’re talking. You know I’m always down for a good time!” she tells me.

We pull up to the Venom Brother’s mansion and both get out of the car. We walk up to the front door. We’re barely even through the door when the questions start and are aimed at her.

“Where the hell were you?” Ransom asks. I know he’s definitely mad because he likes to be in control. Not having it makes him feel like he’ll explode.

“You’re not supposed to go out on your own,” Wolf states next. I know he’s obsessed and just doesn’t like for her to go anywhere without him.

“We should give her a spanking,” Cyrus says in a playful tone. He’s definitely the playful one, who turns everything sexual and inappropriate when he feels like it. She steps to the side to reveal me behind her and I smile and wave at them.

“I went to pick up my bestie. And one, you’re not my keeper and I don’t need to tell you everything that goes on in my life. Two, I can come and go as I please without having to check in with you, and three, maybe it’s you who needs one,” she says with a wink in Cyrus’s direction. I instantly see the heated expression cross his face, and I let out a chuckle.

“I’m glad to see you’re back,” Ransom says as he walks over to me and gives me a hug.

“If it was up to me, I wouldn’t be here,” I say with a sigh.

“Ah, so Knox brought you back kicking and screaming?” he asks with a chuckle.

“Something like that.”

“How are you?” Wolf asks as he comes in to give me a hug too and then Cyrus follows. Before he can say anything I do.

“Not talking about it. Let’s go get drunk!” I say in the cheeriest voice I can muster.

“Well, I won’t be the one to deny you since you asked so nicely,” Cyrus says, chuckling.

We all head into one of their game rooms. Ransom turns the music on as Cyrus and Wolf head for the alcohol and ice.

We get the party started with shots and it’s not long before Camryn and I are dancing and singing along to the music.

“I need more pills,” I tell Ransom at one point.

“You shouldn’t—”

“Don’t even. We’re not the kind of friends who have heart to hearts. You’re the friend who will give me what I need in order to deal with my issues. If I don’t have those little pills, then I’ll probably do something drastic,” I tell him in all seriousness. He sighs before giving me a nod.

“I was just trying to help. You’re Camryn’s friend and she loves you. We all care about her so that means you as well by association,” he says.

“Thanks, I think. But don’t worry, I’ll be fine,” I say, not even sure if I mean it.

After that little heart-to-heart, we all go back to having fun. I think I drink my weight in alcohol. Camryn and I are on the pool table dancing and smoking a joint each when the sound of the bell goes off in the house.

I pay no mind to it and just continue to dance to the music. There’s a cloud of smoke around me. This is honestly the best time I’ve had in a long time. The alcohol and weed are helping me to forget about all the things I want to. It feels good to just let loose, even if it’s just for a few hours.

The music suddenly cuts off. When I look up, wondering what’s going on, I see a very pissed-off Knox heading right for me. I open my mouth, not knowing what I’m going to say, but he saves me from speaking.
