I haven’t left Ayres’s side since we came to get him. The idea of him being seriously injured makes me shake with anger.

He mumbles, and I can see he’s trying to get up. He falls back down and winces.

“Ayres!” I yell a bit too loudly, causing him to jolt upright.

“Ugh.” He blinks his eyes, trying to adjust to the light. I can tell he’s rigid, almost frightened. When he sees me though, his entire body relaxes. “Kr...”

Standing beside the bed, I try to remain as soft as I can. “Don't try talking. Can you stand?”

He puts in a valiant effort while trying to get up, but he’s struggling. It guts me to know he isn’t strong enough to get up on his own. The thing is though…I think he’s panicking, and right now I need him on his A game.

Pulling him to me, I help him stand. Without much thought, I rub his back as we stand there. “I got you, brother. Just relax. I got you.”

He sways, and I know he can’t stand on his own. I stroke his hair as I gulp down my feelings, and I place a hand on his face. “Ayres, I'm going to get you to the car and get you home. There are things we need to discuss, but for now, rest. Just rest.”

The warmth of the car helps him sleep. It’s for the best because I’m not sure I could talk right this second. Haydes is a dead man once I find him. That’s all I can think about as I drive too fast along the winding road to our house.

It takes me and Hypnos a bit to get him in the house. Once we do, we place him on the bed, and I watch as Hypnos looks him over.

“Ayres, wake up.” I growl, trying to hide my Goddamn erection. What the fuck is wrong with me?

“No,” he grumbles, and I chuckle.

“Oh, I wasn't dreaming about you,” he croaks out.

I bring my hand down on his thigh, trying to find a way to touch him without being a damn soft ass baby about it. He flinches and I look at him, concerned.

“Ayres, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

“Eh, no big deal, Kronos.”

“We got shit to discuss,” Hypnos says softly, and I turn toward him. He looks like he’s about to cry.

“You got any pain meds before we talk?” Ayres asks with a wince in his voice. Shit, maybe we should have left him where he was until he was better.

“Yup, Doc left you a prescription. But you aren't getting anything until you sit your ass up.” I’m being a damn hardass, but that’s me. Keeping these two in line is my only job now.

“Here's your medication, Ayres.” Hypnos moves closer to the bed with a water bottle and some pills.

“Father is ...” Hypnos slaps my arm and I growl at him. “He needs to know.”

“Know what?” Ayres says as he swallows the pills down.

I’m not going to sugar coat this shit. “Father's dead.”

Ayres spits his water out and looks at us bug eyed. “What?”

Hypnos takes the water bottle from him and sits down on the bed, propping a pillow up for him. Ayres swats his hand away.

“Yeah, you are going to be just fine.” Hypnos shakes his head and sits down next to him, making sure he stays upright.

The kid rolls his eyes, hating the affection. “Tell me, what the hell did you do?”

“We got raided a day ago, and we are in hot water for having Haydes locked up. Our lawyer says we can get off, like always, but our father, of course, wanted to kill Haydes.”

Ayres shrugs and then winces. “So, Haydes needs to be killed. I'm not on our father's side, but the bastard is right.”

I slash a hand through the air. “That's not the point. Father was talking about it in front of our lawyer. Like a dipshit. So yes, I killed him. Not just because of that, but because...”
